We've had our home for 6 years. The previous owner planted sh*# everywhere on our 1 acre property. It is all too much to maintain and we've been slowly been trying to simplify. I have a bed of daffodils (which are on their way out) and citronella which gets so overgrown that we have to chop it all down. What's the best way to maintain this plant? Also, need suggestions for low maintenance ground cover and flowers.
I'm new to gardening and to the website so any help is appreciated!
P.S. We live in PA
Help with citronella
HI eldn829, really sorry but I dont know any plant named citronella, is there another name????? I do know the smell as we burn candles to deter flying insects, but you have me stumped with the plant of that name, would anyone else local to you know another name for it, then get back to us and I am sure someone will get back to you, I am in UK, so some names differ, or maybe your previous owners were trying to tell you something about the garden. good luck, WeeNel.
I thought citronella was only an annual. It is a type of scented Geranium, Isn't it? If you don't like anything, you can simply remove it. If you do like it, but it is overgrown, try to cut it back to a more manageable size. Can you post a pic of Citronella?
I didn't realize the candles came from plants either, but I saw one last week and it does smell like the candles. The person who had it said he planted it to keep mosquitos away and it works very well.
what type of plant is is? I buy citronella oil to help with insects. You are getting rid of daffodils! Oh, my, I can't get enough of them. I bought 40 last fall and they barely scratched the surface of where I need them. Love them in the spring. If you would like to dump some in a box, I would be happy to pay for postage.
Tammie
