Any info on growing this plant would be helpful. The leaves on one side are getting sun and tend to look burned. Does this plant like water, sun, etc? Thanks, Tim
Croton
HI SWAMPGUY, dont know the plant so hope someone else can come in on this ID for you, however, I can tell you that leaves that are going brown and crisp, are a sure sign that they are getting SUN/WIND burned, it would appear that the plant is telling you to move the position away from direct sun, to be on the safe side while you await further info, you give it some shelter from the hot sun either by unbder a tree, porch, away from glass window where the sun is magnified, and give as much water as the compost will hold, ie, put the pot into a basin of water, once the top of the compost feels wet, remove from basin and let it drain, dont let it sit in water, do this each time you think the plant has used up all the water, maybe give a liquid feed at watering time, every few weeks in the growing season if in a pot, maybe it has been in the pot too long and needs re potting, so till you know more about it, that is about the basic's that I can offer you, trial and patience really.
Good Luck anyway. WeeNel.
the croton thrives on sun, but if you exposed it too quickly to the elements after a "rest" out of direct sun, it is possible to end up with sunburn and wind scald
Thanks how about being root bound?
Swampguy: Is this Croton of yours inside or planted in the ground outside? I have only one in the ground, but a few others in pots out on my deck. My Croton in the ground is on the East side of the house, so it gets morning and early afternoon sun .... the ones in containers are on my screened deck. They are in full sun all day, but the hot sun is filtered by the screen. I do have to water them often, if they dry out the leaves begin to fall.
Here's the link to Plant Files for Crotons. There are quite a few of them. Look through these photo's and see if you can find one that looks like yours:

Do you have a photo you can post of yours?
