Definitely looks like a Mimulus, probably one of these two

I'm not sure about growing tips--I grow several other species of Mimulus that are native to CA but I have a feeling yours may enjoy water and fertilizer a bit more than the native ones do (I pretty much ignore them and they do great)

ecrane3 thankyou for your help.

Hi Ramond UK, I also live in UK, Scotland, here we call this Monkey plant, dont ask me why, I find it does better if kept well watered and dead head every other day or it will soon burn out and go to seed, you will see the difference on a flower that is about to open and one that has already flowered, the spent flower has an empty little bell shaped seed head and one ready to flower has a full little bell, ready to open into bloom, they spread if left in the ground, but are very shallow rooted, really lovely colours, so enjoy.
good luck, WeeNel.

Well Ramond we call Mimulus in Surrey ( UK) yeah it likes a moist soil, and flowers all summer long. Good luck very pretty plant. By the way Ramond it is called Monkey plant because some say it looks like a monkey's face. Nice to see a UK guy here, hello in Scotland.

Hi Lovetogrow, I had a laugh at why these are called monkey plant and it is the patern on the flowers represent little monkey faces, how great is that, however, I looked and looked again and could just about get it, maybe mine have had these very fashionable face lifts Ha, Ha, Ha, my plants are yellow, but looking close at these lovely orange ones that Ramond has, it was clearer, thanks, you learn things on this sight all the time, how good is that then.
