Welcome, Linda! Do you have a lot of sun, or a lot of shade, or something in between? What kinds of plants are you interested in, other than roses? Do you want lots of hot colors (reds, oranges, yellows), or cool colors (blues, purples, pinks), or a mixture?

Hi Well it sets at the back of my house and the sun comes up in the front but there is no shade trees over it, so sun in afternoon shade maybe in the morrings??? looking for lots of color . I was thinging of maybe wild flowers but they look like weeds most of the time, I would like it to look like a landscaper did it (lol) . I want something thats easy to take cear of and will come back each year. I drive a truck and only home on weekends so low low upkeep :)

There are a lot of perennials that should do very well for you. And all wildflowers don't look weedy in the right places. :-) I would suggest looking at salvias (this one is red, but they come in all sorts of colors - http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/243/index.html), coneflowers (this one is purple, but they come in all sorts of colors, too! - http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/26/index.html), periwinkle (they are technically an annual, but they reseed and are very happy little flowers - http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/185/index.html), sunflowers will give you some height. And of course there are tons of bushes and shrubs if you want to add some shade.

Have you found your way over to the Central Midwest Gardening Forum yet? There are a bunch of very friendly folks over there who live in your area and can tell you exactly what grows in your area. http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/region_lmw/all/

I hope that helps!!
