Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I am having a little trouble getting started with my pole beans. All the other veggies are doing great. This was my second attempt to get some seedlings started. First time I started them in a tray of 9 and only 1 sprouted. Second attempt, I soaked the seeds overnight and then planted them in a tray......this time I did 24, and not even one of those have come up after 2 weeks. I could really use some good advice on how to get them started. I would just put them into the ground, but when I did that with my flower garden, the rain moved the seeds around, so I wanted to get them started first in trays and then transplant them into the garden with the other veggies. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Pole Beans dont want to sprout :-(
Direct sowing is always better with beans. But they sprout so quickly and easily I suspect you have bad seed. You have rain? How about sharing it?
Are you sowing them too deep? I just had to replant some beans because I planted the first ones too deep, they sprouted under the soil, and then rotted, never reaching the surface. The next batch I planted about 1/2" deep and they sprouted in 2 days.
I agree with Farmerdill, if you have rain, please share! And on the pole bean seedlings, if you have good seeds and keep them moist they will sprout. Mine are like 3" tall and dying of thirst at the moment. And after I spent all that time growing those Hickory Saplings for them to climb up, you'd think they'd at least grow...
Thanks for the advice.. Now that I think about it, I think I did plant them maybe too deep. I am going for the 3rd try this weekend.......If I could send rain I would, but now we need it again..lol
Sounds like your seed is not good, as Farmerdill suggests. Did you buy it or is it saved? If you want a good harvest, I'd suggest you buy some. I like Blue Lake, myself, for huge clusters of tender pods all through the season on 8' vines. Never had a problem germinating them direct.
Blue Lakes are really good--been growing them for at least 30 years and haven't found any I like better. Like some of the rest of y'all though, mine are not getting any rain :-( They're having to make do with water from the soaker hose. Anybody want to join me in a Great Rain Dance?
my grandma grew some beans and the soil was in our old flowerbed. she used beans for cooking. i think youhave bad beans.
