Shrubs to plant near foundation southwest facing. HELP!

liverpool, Canada

I need some advice regarding kinds of shrubs to plant near the foundation of my new home. Southwest orientation in son 6a/6b. The soil is mostly clay.
Thanks

Oswego, IL(Zone 5b)

We are in zone 5b in Illinois and our soil is almost all clay. After a few dead shrubs we wound up going with yews, boxwoods, inkberry holly, euonymous, rhodos and azaleas. All evergreen, which I wanted near the foundation. A nursery near us suggested mushroom compost and everything is growing successfully now. We dig the planting hole to about 21/2 times the width of the rootball, then loosen the soil on the sides. Plant the shrub and backfill with origianl soil mixed with the mushroom compost. Hope that helps.
