Rooting Ivy

Concrete, WA(Zone 7b)

I have cuttings from a friends Ivy.....I have them in water where they are growing and have been for about 2 months. Is there anything I can do to get them to root quicker? I would like to get them planted and start growing up my fence. Don't have many or any roots for planting.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My father-in-law has tons of ivy and he doesn't root them in water. He just takes cuttings and plants them directly into the ground whereever he wants them. They just take off growing and spreading.

Maybe you could take a few of your cuttings and try that to see what happens.

Hi Twomoons, I agree with Anniebelle, Ivy is one of these plants that will root anywhere, even bits that have fallen on the ground, wherever it touches the soil it just roots, I would lay a couple of your cuttings on top of some damp compost, get some wire bend it like a hair pin, and put a couple of these pegs in to hold it in place, it should be showing some roots in about 2 weeks, pot it up and once it gets more roots, nip out the top growing tips to get it to branch out, when you water, dont soak the compost and if it gets really hot, mist it to keep it moist, If it is a verigated Ivy, dont plant it in all day sun as it is inclined to loose some of the leaf markings, good luck.

Be careful with ivy. This greenery on all the oaks is a little ivy that the previous owner planted in 1979. He wrote in his diary that he hoped it would take in the yard.
