Ways to disguise neighbor's pressure treated wood wall?

Washington, DC

Any suggestions for what will grow on a pressure treated wood beam retaining wall? I tried creeping fig w/modest success but it didnt survive the winter.

My neighbor leveled his yard and put in the retaining wall. On top of the retaining wall he's installed a lattice fence.

In one area I can plant bushes to obscure the retaining wall but in another prominent area there is not enough space for shrubs on my side...so I need to figure out a way to make the wall itself less of an eyesore.

Growing something above the retaining wall that would drape down is not an option.

Thx.

What about Boston Ivy?

Washington, DC

Thx JasperDale. As it happens I just brought home a pot of Boston Ivy to try. I know that it will attach itself to brick or concrete but will it grow on the pressure treated wood?

Absolutely. Even though it goes dormant in the winter, the stems of the vine will eventually cover the wood and provide an interesting "pattern" on it.

The greenish stain on the lumber will eventually fade to a silvery brown, too.

That Boston Ivy will attach to anything...it has little "feet" which it uses to anchor itself to the surface it's growing on. It even grows on the concrete of the freeways here...so you won't have any problem with it attaching to PT lumber.

Thx again. Will plant ivy today!
