ooo that grass scares me... a friend had it in her backyard. I was watching her grandchildren a couple years ago. I had stepped outside to smoke a cigarette (that was before I quit), anyway somehow I got locked out, luckily the kids and the phone were out there with me. I called her and she told me where a key was hidden in the yard. Well my shoes were inside (its hot here so if in a home environment, we usually don't wear shoes inside or out), didn't think anything of walking across the grass barefooted to get to the extra key.... she had zoysia grass..which I renamed firegrass, After stepping on it for a couple of seconds my feet burned so bad I was crying. After getting the key and going back inside and getting the kids inside and washing my feet several times with different things, they still burned...this lasted about 2 days.. I mean unless you want to torture someone or you have steel for skin, i highly do NOT recommend it. WORST GRASS EVER!!! I thank god the babies didn't walk out on it.

hey thanks for the info , did her kids have a problem also or was it just you ? were they using a fertilizer or anything that could have caused the burning ?

No, she didn't use any kind of fertilizer that would make it burn...I specifically asked. Also That day I didn't let the children on the grass because I was already crying. A two year old certainly didn't need to go through that. Unfortunately she told me before that he had gotten on it and was crying saying it burns, she had no clue what he was talking about though at the time... Until I told her her lawn was made of burning grass. Thank goodness they had a screened in porch the kids could play on.

My daycare provider has/had zoysia grass and just loved it. She said there were a lot of houses in the neighborhood with the same grass that had it for years but recently it has gotten some kind of disease and they are all having to replace their lawns. She really liked the zoysia because it kept the weeds down and didn't require as much water or maintenance. They decided not to use zoysia this time because they didn't know what the disease was or if it would even grow for them now that the disease is "in the neighborhood". All of the kids at daycare wear shoes so I don't know anything about the burning effect.

It may be different if you live up north. However here in the summer time, most folks just can't / won't keep their shoes on...its waaay to hot.. the kids usually put sprinklers on the lawn to run throught if there is no pool nearby. It is very important to have soft 'nice' grass..its summer carpet here!
