Hi i'm totally new to planting, but I would like to know how to plant a mamey seed. All I could find is that it takes 2 months supposedly to 'germinate'; yet I don't know what exactly germinating is and if there is a specific way I would need to germinate it.
I would sincerely apperciate if somebody could give me directions on how I would go about growing a mamey plant from a seed.
Thanks in advance.
Planting a Mamey Seed
Reeling,
Can you tell us what it is? I Googled it, but came up with nothing.

Is it this? It's the only thing that comes up in Plant Files when I put in "mamey" in the common name field
Pouteria sapota: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/102877/index.html
I don't know how to grow it, but if you can confirm this is the plant you mean hopefully someone else will know
The link to it from Dave's Garden is to a nursery called Top Tropicals. The link is on the Plant File page. There are lots of photos of it. I'm learning all the time!!!

I did a yahoo search and came up with tons of info

http://www.tropilab.com/mamey.html
Based on those links, it looks like it could be either the Pouteria sapote that I linked to, or Mammea americana. This is why I don't like common names! reeling--any thoughts on which one it is that you have?
definitely tropical. I used to eat them.
