enough sun for Mexican and Cold Crick Primrose

Browns Summit, NC

I've just planted Mexican & Cold Crick Primrose in what I was thinking at the time would be plenty of sun, but now I'm not so sure. Planted on the northwest side of my property, they only get direct sunlight between 1:30 - 5:30 in the afternoon. Is this enough direct sun? I am in central North Carolina, spring is nice here, summer very hot and humid.

Hi Sparrish! Welcome to DG! I grew Mexican primrose at my home in Denver for years. I had them in the front - east facing yard. They were in shade pretty much till noonish, then sun all afternoon. They loved it. Grew everywhere. I cut them back to the ground after the first frost, and they came back every spring. Here's a pic. Hope you like them as much as I did.

Thanks so much for the info. I had been back and forth on whether or not to move them. I think I'll leave them and see how it goes. Thanks again!

happy to help. Good luck, and happy gardening!

At the apartment building where I used to live, the Mexican primroses only received sun about 2-3 hours a day during high-noon hours. Grew and bloomed like crazy. I would leave them if it were me.
