Who is eating my Smoke Tree?

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Every year our smoke trees don't get the
opportunity to do much because they are
neglected, for one, but now that I have moved
them, I noticed the annual critters have devoured
the branches again.

Upon closer inspection, I found little worms.
Is this the culprit, and if so, does anyone have
suggestions for controlling those little suckers?

I'd really like to care for our Smoke Trees now,
and yet upon replanting see they are still in danger.

Many thanks,
Karen Marie

Hello Eq,

Well, I didn't find any of those, but did find little
black worms. I'll have to go back out and inspect
again.

:-)

Take photos of these little blackies!

LOL Eq, I did try, but even with my new camera, they only
show up as black lines on the picture. I can't get close enough
to get detail.

They are about 1/2" long, have six little legs in the front of their
body and then the back end seems fat, so he either has a big
butt or he's full of Smoke Tree. ;-)

Probably full of smoke tree!

I'll play with this a little later and call a friend.
