Morning Glories 2007 #02

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Here is another plant that I bought with the name on tag:
Ipomoea x multifida 'Apricot Candy'

The owner of the nursery said they came to her as a cross but she gave it the name 'Apricot Candy'.

Color is a Yellow Center with Apricot around edge.

I have never seen anything but a Red in this species, has anyone else?

This is not a good photo, but is the only one I have. I will take a better one tomorrow.

First leaf of a JMG I am growing...it is way cool in that it is curling up nicely. I can't wait to see how it does this year!

Emma, I like the Apricot Candy. I've only seen the red.

Joseph,
Nice, very nice...

Emma,
That's a real nice plant.

well, this is what I got today..

Only one open and it was to be Joyce Cobb, I don't know what happened, maybe it reverted.. or is a sport.

This has happened before with this one (last year)

Joseph,
Super JMG vine, Love those leaves.

Antoinette, really do LOVE your White Blooms.
Where did those seeds come from?

Thanks Jackie and Antoinette, I really like these little Blooms on my Apricot Candy.

Here is a better photo, but not by much.
Guess it is time to learn how to use my camera.

Thank you Joseph..

Emma, the original seeds came from Larry Smith years ago (probably 2004) have to check my D-mails with him. I have not been able to get them to bloom the same. Last year they were this color also. Maybe a little more pinkish. There is a tint of pink in the center of this one also.

This is Joyce Cobb from 2006, I replant these because they are my favorites..lol.. These are the only ones that got planted in 2006.

Oh wow, Antoinette, I really do like this one

In fact they are all just awesome.

The faded pink one is the winner.
So unusual.

After three days, I got tired of waiting for this one to well and truly shrivel up, and just called it done.

It's a "Picotee Blue" that bloomed slowly, never really opened up as far as I'd expected it to, lasted a long time, and then failed to wither away with dignity. It was a 'partial double', with a couple of petal-like bits inside.

The photo below is from earlier in the process, and the link here...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcVWvZShVbI
...is to the YouTube clip of the time-lapse video that I took over the last three days.

I eventually called it quits mainly because I got tired of waiting for it to well and truly wilt to a point that could clearly be called "done", but also because there are a couple of brand new buds on the Flying-Saucers-or-maybe-Blue-Star vines that want to be the next time-lapse movie stars. Who am I to argue?

This is today's bloom of Joyce Cobb, more of what I am used to seeing on this one.

Frontal view of Joyce Cobb, it seems to be a little lighter than the years before but it may change color as the day progresses, also had Rebecca bloom this morning but haven't had a chance to upload the photos of that one.

Here is Rebecca (the color in person is a darker purple, don't know why it came out so light)..

sideview of Rebecca, will take a couple more photos later in the day.. have to leave for the afternoon.

That was a cool video. The Joyce Cobb is lovely. I`m trying that one this year. Here is a picture that says Summer to me. It`s a pink Kawaii.

Thank you Jackie,
Yeah, I really like it also.

Well, Rebecca was already closing so did not take more photos today.

I like the center on that Kawaii, I also have one plant going with a couple of buds on it, I can hardly wait to see what color it will be.

A, love the JC!!
I like the Kawaii too Karen, I have a few of mine started but won't be seeing blooms for a bit yet though

Here is an interesting nil I found growing with my sunflowers. It is a F2 from another cross I did with ukigumo x Fuji.

Karen, that really is unusual. I have seen the darker inner ring with blizzard patterns before, but nothing this dramatic! I woud be interested to know if it repeats itself.

This was greeting me this morning and is an I. nil that has the duplicate gene causing a double sterile flower.

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

...this shows that it really is a nil!

Thumbnail by atenkley

..this was my surprise for the day. It was sold as a white flower with a pink tube, called "Oreheme". It is obviously something different!

It was pretty cool last night and today's blooms struggled. This is from one of my F2 growouts.

This is not a perfect flower, but it foretells a pretty bright future. Karen, this is from your Lavender Star seed! Not only is this a really clean red, this plant also has the deepest dark green foliage in my garden.

Arlan

Wow Arlan, That double bloom is awesome. It is unreal looking!

I knew there was some pink possibly hiding in that seed mix. I recall the pink I grew did have very nice green foilage. So far, I`m getting both the yellow green and the dark green foilage.

Karen and Arlan,
Your Blooms are magnificant!

Arlan, Your double is really nice, and this one is incredible!
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3498423

Is this REALLY a Blue Creeper?
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3498269

This is the first I've ever seen. Just love it!

Awesome stuff!

Emma

I spent several hours yesterday getting my transplants of JMGs into their growing containers, now it is the waiting game until July for flowers! I am glad there is interesting foliage to see on these fine plants.

Karen, I really like the double nils also. I can see why the Japanese refer to them as "peony."

I have two plants growing from your lavender star seed. This red one with dark green leaves and then a yellow leaved one with what I'm thinking is pink/lavender flowers. I have not seen an open flower, but it had a colored bud the evening I left last week.... The yellow leaved plant is much more compact growing than the dark green leaved one.

Emma, Thanks for the nice comments. Yes, the light blue flowered plant is a dwarf or creeper. It showed up in a Kodachi mix.

I had a nice brown show up in a Kawaii mix today : http://davesgarden.com/journal/j/si/128339/ The solid colored leaves contrast well with the variegated leaves of the Sunsmile brown that also bloomed today: http://davesgarden.com/journal/j/si/128346/

Arlan

This one is a real stunner Karen http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3514677
Arlan yours ain't so bad either!! ♥

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks luvsgrtdanes!

Arlan that picotee mix was grown seperated from the other plants but it was still open pollinated. I have found two out of 30 plants that appear to be mixed with "something else" due to some cross pollination. One was a pretty one and I moved it to another spot.

This year I`m going to hand pollinate and encourage more doubling. It looks like these have a lot of doubles followed by fertile single flowers which is good because you need seeds.

Here is a contribution for today. This is a F2 of berry ice x youjiro blue This has light green leaves with red stems and veins.

Here is a view of the sepals. Ya`ll have a good day today. Karen

Karen, love it, but what is the one down below that looks like a birthday ribbon, rolled ribbon with bands of white? Can you send us
a close-up of that one?

Jackie

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi Patootie, That is a closed bloom from yesterday. I could try a crop to see it closer tomorrow.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Karen, My old eyes don't work so well. That's why it looks like
rolled ribbon, it's closing. Everyone else could probably tell but
not silly old me. LOL
