Trackinsand got me thinking about this. She is a self-proclaimed yanker. Yanking this out and that out, til the garden looks perfect. If you follow her threads you'll see "yanking" works for her.
I am not a yanker, except for daylilies. I will not hesitate to pull a DL out if its the wrong color or wrong height or simply not the cultivar I was expecting.
Are you a yanker?
Are you a Yanker????
roflol, woe to the yank-ees!
I am, but I feel guilty about it, so I must be a Catholic yanker LOL.
I think I am more a mover or giver awayer. Certainly no problem with getting rid of something you don't like.
Oh for sure, al, you don't just pitch them do you guys??
I don't toss anything. I do yank, but we have clear cut property in back of us which is abounding with non-native weeds so I often plant "over abundances" (i.e. gazillions of Crocosmia and Variegated Grass) back there. Not always successful, but at least I feel better for trying.
I hate to admit it but I am so slow to yank (you know how South Carolinians feel about yank-ees :-))).
Wish I was more disciplined about getting rid of the less than perfect. I keep hoping things will get prettier soon and sometimes, albeit rarely, it actually happens.
I just remember I had threatened to yank my Gardenia veitchii for being such a primadonna, but early in the spring I applied ES in addition to fertilizer, and that thing perfomed beautifully. Don't know if the epsom did the trick.
Yep I'm a yanker and a tosser if I don't like something.
I am a procrastinating yanker. I think I wait to see if maybe by some miracle some things will come back after they die off. Luckily my hydrangeas did come back! Let me tell you though....I had dug up one of them and just sort of settled it in a pot that I was going to throw away. Well it ended up on the porch for quite a while. I have friends that are smokers and they will smoke outside so I told them to just put the butts in the planter because that plant was 'dead' anyway. In the beginning of spring I noticed green! When they came over again though, I had to stop them from putting the butts in there again. lol I figured when they saw green they'd get the hint.
I haven't been gardening too long to really know if I'm a yanker but I think I am. I say this because, when we moved in DH yanked out a crepe murtle that was 'in the way' and I didn't put up a fight. I yanked out 4 bushes because they didn't have anything flowering and have replaced them with oleanders. Now, I am in the process of yanking out some 'purple heart' wandering jew. It spreads so fast and i just don't care for it. I gave my friend some if it but the other day I just went to whacking because it was in the spot I wanted to put my new hydrangea. I know, PrairieGirl, shame on me. I was trying to save them for my friend because they are so effortless but the snails or something had gotten to them; they had a lot of tiny little holes. Took care of that with some Sluggo hopefully.
So, I think I am a yanker. But in the future I will try to only pitch what has met its unfortunate death by Becky. :)

LOL shortstuff. I guess that makes me more of a wanna be. I have a Rose-of-Sharon that clashes, I have even bought the replacement shrub (a red-twigged dogwood), and I still haven't yanked it yet. Soon...LOL
I have a pathetic, tiny rose that doesn't grow or bloom - just gets black spot. I told it yesterday that it was gonna have to go, but I still haven't had the heart to do it! It was a freebie, btw, from J&P.
See, I don't think I'd have the heart to yank a rose though...
Oh I have a rose that needs to be yanked, it's a biter and it bit me one last time. I would yank it, but I don't want to get bit (and all scratched up) again.
Yep. I must be a yanker. :) I know of one container that got ratty looking so I yanked but threw it over in a specified corner and it went crazy with neglect ! Now I dig parts of it up and re plant it if I need a filler. Couple other things I murdered got yanked but I didn't have the heart to throw them away. They are in a spot in the yard where nothing is planted yet still in their dirt but not really planted just kinda mounded up. I keep my eye on them while I water so if I see anything happening I will repot. I don't like scraggly looking plants yet I rescue them at Lowes. LOL Makes no sense does it?
LOL! Prairie - you made me laugh out loud with your "guilty" yanker!
I'm an Italian yanker in Virginia so I rant an rave with my hands then say "beg pardon"!
The biggest yank-ees in my yard: Obedient plant (obedient my a**!); campanula - bellflower; and violets. Oh I forgot my neighbor's maple tree offspring. I've got maple trees coming up EVERYWHERE!!!
Gardengirl, I feel you on the little trees everywhere! I have little acorn trees coming up in the front and back yard. There is a huge tree on the SIDE of the house of course, so it makes sure it coves both.
LOL ss - I have a maple in my backyard, which is on the side of the house. I was trying to convey the look of a groundcover to my husband, so I said, imagine all of these seedlings were groundcover, and he got it right away! LOL
TOO FUNNY Prairie!!
I yank maple seedlings with no remorse! :p
What a cute thread this is. I've laughed a lot reading this.
My Mother is definitely a Yanker from way back. She yanks and pitches! Yanks out the plants and pitches them over the fence in the pasture. You should see all the lovely petunias and zinnias that are blooming and thriving out in our pasture. ;) Even the cows must enjoy them cause' they don't even eat them. If Laura Bush only knew that her namesake petunias were thriving out beside a cow patty .....Hmmmm!
