Sof,
I have no idea! Maybe I'll just randomly start potting up noid wintersown seedlings in pots!

Hey, that's okay. Even if you have dead plants, they'll still look good in those pots!
With that combination of colors on the glazes, a swell collection of plants with aureated leaves'd look very pretty. Lamiums and Plectranthus have some nice aureated cultivars. Coreopsis 'Moonbeam' has super foliage and pale yellow flowers. They sell a nice yellow leafed geranium at Haskells in New Bedford. While you're there, you should probably pick up some trained ivies or Fuschia too.
You should charge for your advice! I love this website.
Golden Creeping Jenny trailing down the sides would look fantastic with those colors. Just have to keep it wet.
Everybody is invited to my place, Carrie - especially you :-) I love the idea of a Zen garden.
So everyone, if you are coming to the Springfield area - let me know and I will d-mail my address and phone number.
Cheers,
Michaela Seandor.
Thanks Michaela! I sometimes visit my friend in Vermont. When I do, I have to drive through Springfield. Next time I go, I'll stop in!
Harper
Hi everyone!!!!! yesterday I played with 2 little boys and I am exausted!!!!! goodness gracious... is harder than gardening... all the running, screaming (mostly me!) and the lifting and tickling and I am so tired today... fun things!!!!
I told my mom about you guys and she said to say Hi to all of you!!!! I have pictures to post tonight... I took tons of pictures yesterday... we had a great time...
I woke up early to plant some roses... could get only 4 planted... I still have another 6 to do it! but the veggie garden has been delegated to my mom and a good friend I have that is such a good gardener... she is my friend from Brazil and we have adopted her and she has adopted my family... I am so glad now she is stoping by after work so my mom has someone to talk to and I am soon putting then to work.... they are going to love it!!!
I am praying for the dahlias... they were planted 3-4 inches deep and all have a stake ready for them... 21 dahlias.... plus the red ones in front of the house... they better grow!!!!
Love your containers...
Harper, let me know and I will make sure I meet you there also....
I fly to San Diego this coming Friday for the So CA round up... I am excited to meet some of those folks... and guess what? Dave (the one and only webmaster!!!) is going to be there... so I will be there from the Northeast ... how cool is that!!!???
Have fun Kass! The NE is well represented. Great to hear about your mom and the kids. Enjoy.
Victor
Wow! How could you guys have so much to say in such a short time?
Water, by "aureated" you mean yellow, right? I mean not yellow like stella d'oro but yellow like variegated that way. This whole back garden thing was designed as a relief to the front of the house, which is over yellow'd. We have stella d'oro coming out of our ears and 'moonbeam' out of our mouth and all down the front of the shirt. (If you look on plant trading you'll see that I'm giving away coreopsis 'moonbeam' as fast as I can dig and send it.) Maybe one of the large containers, OK. I love lamium, I've been using it as groundcover in containers. I never thought of it all by itself.
Kassia, Sofia, sounds like you're having fun! When, Michaela?
xxx, Carrie
Kassia, finally you have a full house! I got up early to plant herbs. Much easier than roses LOL I have an appointment with the eye doctor that just happens to lead past my favorite nursery, so I will HAVE to stop. and I have a coupon!
Kassia, glad your Mom enjoyed your garden :))
Carrie, what a wonderful gift!!! What ARE you raking over the bottom?
Big City, I love the rebar painted green. If I'm going to do the big dahlias I think I may have to do that. Those are gorgeous!
Carrie, your containers are beautiful! I don't do containers well. I forget to water. Ironically, when my neighbor leaves town, I water her pots all week :))
My zen is my green grass. I told DH I became ''one'' with the yard when I mowed and like how it looks, cut diagonally. He said gee, I never got that when I mowed. Men.
More crispy edges. The gardens.
Gram, you must stop at the nursery... I agree with you!!!!
Kassia, Have a wonderful trip and say "hello" to the real Dave from all of us.
absolutly! I will tell him!!!! if he is going to that RU he MUST come to ours also!!!!
Billy, looks like you'll have lots of yummy fresh veggies. When's the party??
:)) The spinich party starts tomorrow. The asparagus party is pretty much over. I'm waiting for the red tater ball!
Hope it's a classic Pontiac! I've never tried potatoes yet. Are they easy?
Carrie - you can come anytime.
Regarding potatoes - saw something new today at the grocery store - a baking potatoe shrink wrapped with instructions to microwave e.g. to make a "baked" potatoe. Price? 99 cents each potatoe. Just think for 4 bucks you could have a baked potatoe for yourself and three friends. Honestly . . . are people that dumb?
I did stop at the nursery. Used my coupon on a very nice Ninebark 'Summer Wine'. also picked up some herbs for my new herb garden and some very pretty annuals (some purple ivy-leaved geraniums that I know Kassia would like). oh, and a nice little sedum for my rock garden.
Victor, I grew potatoes in a 1/2 whiskey barrel once just for fun. got a pretty good crop. I'm going to try them again in a container of some kind.
I think so. Cut them the size of a hens egg, making sure it has an eye or two. Let it dry a few days and plant it about 4'' deep. As it grows pull the dirt around it to keep the growing potatoes out of the sunlight. When the top dies down, dig a bit out from the plant and dry out of the sun to avoid green skin. I get mine out pretty early, but try not to have them come up before the last freeze or it will take the tops and have to start all over again. Nothing better than a new potato!!! Some people plant on top of the ground and pile dirt over them. I grew a few in the compost pile one year. I've grown russets and kenebecks too.
(If I grow one the shape of a car I'll post a photo :))
Seandor, I think those were Dan Quayle potatoes you saw!
Well I knew I wasn't going to say it!
ROTFL!
Of course - Dan Quayle potatoes! Gee - just think of the range in VPs - silly to sinister.
Very goodE Dave. I didn't want to point that out.
And to think, any of us could go to the grocery store, buy a 10 lb. bag of baking potatoes, take them home, wash them off, wrap them up in plastic wrap, print labels on our color printer, slap them on, and wait for the Big Bucks to come rolling in. We could wrap them in tinfoil and call them camping potatoes, but then the people who go camping with a generatot to run the microwave might get mad. Makes almost as much sense as our pre-presidential business schemes. Without discussing anything that would get me censored. I tend to get little notes from Terry more often than most, I imagine, either that or she's writing those little notes to people day and night!
xxx, Carrie
Good grief - what do you say that is so naughty? I was censored for using the d_mn word LOL! Clearly, this is not Canadian media. Silly Canadians think naughty words pose less harm than gratuitous (sp?) violence - but then, what do Canadians know? lol.
Once I said "wicked pissah" in the thread about the Dave and Trish and Terry selling out to NameMedia..." When I was very new I didn't say darn and heck where I ought to have. I usually stray too close to the line separating church, state, and daves. Politics and daves... Religion and daves.... etc.
And there's the e.e. cummings stuff I couldn't, or didn't dare post....
xxx, Carrie
So, you are an individual with strongly held opinions - ummm, makes for interesting conversation, but I guess some people are thin-skinned. I have heard that problems have erupted over different issues, where wiser heads would simply agree to disagree.
We definitely should try to meet in person!
We enforce the rules on the site with an even hand, and the majority (by far) thank us for it and ask us to continue to keep profanity off the site.
Publicly complaining about it is counter productive. If you don't like it, you are welcome to go join a different site with looser restrictions.
Dave
Carrie and Michaela, I am one of those that agree with the rules here. I've been to those other sites and when I want to blow off steam, I go back to those sites. I like Dave's the way it is.
Oh, I got a light slap on the hand once (with a jolly nature) by Terry because I once wrote that I was enjoying the he** out of myself.
Harper
that's exactly it, though. there are words that I don't have a problem with, but some folks do. and I like that there are rules so there are no questions. keeps things nice here and quiet...no arguments.
Speaking of places to blow off steam, have you ever visited Craig's List 'rants and raves'? That can be very entertaining.
I never said I wouldn't comply with the rules . . . as I said, I have heard of situations where people could not agree to disagree, and things get out of hand. :-)
Be eloquent when a profane or blasphemous word pops to mind. It's actually a lot of fun to wrap your mind around the concepts you're putting forward and then weave the consideration into words.
I do love a good rant though. My grandfather taught me a string of profanity that goes on for a good minute or so. What's nice about it is that you start off angry and the absurdity of its length almost has you laughing by the end.
The naughty word I was reprimanded for was "d_mn." Nothing extraordinarily vulgar. But the rules are the rules, and I must humbly comply. :-)
Oh yes, I understand. Perhaps next time "God forsaken" might fit. Means the same thing but, oddly enough, won't cause the same stir.
I think this is a similar conversation to the one about public breast feeding. It's perfectly natural but inappropriate for the public because it might disturb others. Since consideration for others ought to be everyone's goal, we are polite and refrain.
Ummm................could I get my points in heaven now?
