Lavarocks & Weed

Harker Heights, TX(Zone 8b)

We recently moved in a new home and we also like the landscaping/
The previous owner used a lot of black lavarocks.
It looks good.
But now the weed starts growing.
Is there something i can sprinkle etc...on top of the lavarocks to control
the weed????
I tryed roundup but i guess it don't go down all the way to the soil
because of the rocks.
Any ideas ? Thanks

Roundup doesn't do any good if it goes on the soil, it has to go on the weeds' leaves for it to work. You can use corn gluten as a pre-emergent herbicide (prevents weed seeds that land there from growing) but it won't do any good for weeds that are already there. Personally I prefer vinegar on a sunny day to the Roundup, but in either case you need to get the stuff on the weed leaves.

Use roundup concentrate, mix it a little strong. That will kill off existing weeds, if it does not kill them, somethings wrong. After they are dead it can help to use a line trimmer to clear off the heavy stuff. Then sprinkle Casceron on top. That will form a weed barrier that should last about three months... just don't disturb the surface (walking on it etc).

I would walk among the weeds with a stick and whack the leaves this helps to get the weedkiller or whatever you want to use, into the sap of the weed quicker, remember it takes sometimes a few weeks before you start to see any discolouration of the leaves, it has to travel right down to the roots and a day or so to reach back up to the leaves, so maybe it is still working. good luck, WeeNel.
