Basil Attack

Champaign, IL(Zone 5b)

I had a few pots of basil outside, and when I checked on it this morning...the tops were cut off. I'd seen someone else have a problem like this and suggested cut worm? The other pot seems ok, there were more seedlings in it though...what I was wondering is if they would grow back...there's maybe 1/8 inch stem sticking out of the dirt with no leaves.....are they goners?

Well, it's been my experience when harvesting basil that it wil produce again. Seems like a cut is a cut - whether by kitchen shears or a cutworm. I also had a basil plant that got nipped by the frost a few weeks back. Cut it down to the ground - now is leafing out again. Odds are it will come back again.

Thanks!!! I hope it will! Thanks for giving me some hope...

Hey Kristie
I had a similar problem last October. My new basils plants were completely destroyed over a weeks time by tiny worms. I had the pot at the kitchen counter for most of the days, but once i let it out for fresh sunlight and after that it was infested.
Sorry to tell you, but i lost all my basil plants.

Thanks...I already gave up hope....I pulled the little stubs out, they were dying. I still have a little basil left, so it was a total loss......Thanks for breaking the news gently :)

I have some basil plants that are being attacked by tiny whitish worms, as someone mentioned below. Does anyone have any idea how to rid my plants of these worms (organically, of course).

thanks

Josh
