What kind of flower

When I was growing up in Michigan my mother had a flower in her garden. I am wondering if anybody might have an idea what is was? My mom didn't know the name of it.
It was a yellow flower that bloomed in the spring. It was a single bloom about the size of a nickel or dime. The bloom itself was puffy or raised. The leaves on the plant were a glossy dark green. It reminded me of a strawberry plant. The plant spread and could become invasive. The plant could be about 6-12 inches high.

Mary , try the plant Id forum if you have no luck here. Check Ranunculacea and Oxalidaxeae in the plant files, see what you think abt either of them. I forgot what you said abt the foliage till I got to plant files.

Try looking up Tunera Ulmifolia. That sounds like what you are describing. I think the common name is Yellow Alder. Very invasive, and most folks consider it a weed, but my husband likes it a lot, so I have several pots of it.

Maybe Duchesnia indica? Its common name is False strawberry, it has yellow flowers, and I believe it can be invasive

Maybe Ranunuculus repens? One of the cultivars in Plant Files has double flowers which give the impression of being puffy

I think they can tend to be invasive, I'd do some homework on it first to make sure it's not going to get out of control in your garden before you plant it. No idea where to get it though, I've never run across it at a nursery or any of the mail order places I usually order things from.

Plant Delights used to have a single flowered R. repans called 'Buttered Popcorn'. Don't know about its hardiness zones, but prob. would be ok in Fla. You can try the website http://plantdelights.com
