what's your latest and coolest online purchase?

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

i do so much online shopping and i love amazon. i recently got a 30" well-made shoehorn because i wear slip-ons but have a bad back now and again. i love this thing! i also just discovered that amazon has a gourmet food section so i was able to find ABC sweet soy sauce. it's kind of like molasses and is great for marinades. i purposely didn't include plant purchases-way too much stuff there!

I buy a lot of stuff on ebay and I love my most recent...they are those old fashioned crochet topped kitchen towels.

I came across these by acident while looking up morning glories. What is so neat..besides the morning glories trailing all over an old white fence, like the one in our back yard......the towels also have an old enamelware coffee pot, coffee pot button and beans, which I love old enamelware and coffee lol. They also have an apple baskets of blueberries...which, I love the old apple baskets and have a lot around our yard and my better half and I love blueberries...so at the time I bought them, I didn't notice all the cool other stuff that really does reflect a lot of our loves...they look so cute hanging of our 1950's pine cabinets..love em.

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

i love ebay too and used to go pretty crazy on it. now it's just once in a while. i've found some pretty neat linens on there too.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

From Ebay -- A skirt in size 4, brand new and complete with tags. It's ankle length navy chiffon, very floaty, and --- it's reversible to a pretty navy blue print. Paid $9.99 plus $6 shipping. It's hard to find my size in New Mexico and I've had good success on ebay if I stick to name brand clothes. Ann Taylor, Liz Claiborne and Jones New York all usually fit me perfectly.

Ordered a book on 'Scrollsaw A photo'...want to take pictures of grandchildren and do scroll saw photo's for each of them for Christmas...just have to get caught up with outdoor work and then I'm off to the challenge...Betty

I love shopping online, especially ebay. If there is anything I want, I check ebay before buying anywhere.

Just the other day I was looking at a garden center site and they had something I wanted. The price was $4.50 a pack plus shipping. I found the same item on ebay with a $10 BIN or best offer for 7 packs. I offered $5, they took it plus $4.65 shipping.

So I got 7 packs for about $11 when at the garden site it would have cost me over $30.00.

Plenty of people can come in with horror stories regarding ebay...but plenty of people can come in with horror stories surounding many online or in town stores. Ebay is no different. You have to be careful, as with any place....but boy oh boy do I get more for my money. lol

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

i agree. i can honestly say that out of over 500 buys on ebay, only 5 or so were even remotely disappointing and none so bad as to make me want to quit. as with anything, anywhere, one must be careful.

Carmichael, CA

Yea,

I rarely have an issue. I have more issues with Walmart or Target than I do on ebay.

But, I am partial..that is where I met my better half and ebay is a large part of his income and hobby. It gives us a lot of control over how our days go. lol

Mandeville, LA(Zone 9a)

I got a kitchen witch on ebay. Hopefully she'll keep me from burning up any more pots!

Greensboro, AL

I got mist heads for my new greenhouse mister system from Greenhouse Supply. Well -- I am excited about it.

Thornton, IL

i have never used ebay. got any tips on how to start/what to look for?

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh, Prairie. That in itself is a book. :-)

Biggest word of advice, look at and read a seller's feedback.

Don't rely on the 97 or 99%, as this is misleading. They may have
a high rating, but how many people were unhappy?

Also click on what kind of feedback the seller left for his or her buyers.
Someone who uses potty mouth language in their feedback is
not someone I want to buy from.

I got a Havahart trap off of ebay last week. Yippee! No more sticking my hands in cat poop when digging in my garden. Tamara

Thornton, IL

It traps cats?

Greensboro, AL

Prairie: I would do a lot of shopping before I got ready to buy. It really is the biggest flea market in the world . . . everything you can imagine and a whole lot you can't. One time I sort of did a survey on ming chinese furniture. I was interested in looking in as much as possible because I wanted to copy some pieces in a cabinet making class. I found some Christies' Auction catalogs that had just the pictures I needed. Other than those catalogs, I didn't buy any thing (except a pair of Chinese jade foo dogs), but I sure gave myself an education in ming chinese furniture. And I made a small table that I am still quite proud of.
Get set for a great adventure.

Thornton, IL

I will have to set aside some time to do this right,,,

Painesville, OH(Zone 5b)

We have a big problem with outdoor cats around here. I contacted the Humane Society and they advised me that I was within my legal rights to set up a Havahart trap (it looks like a cage) on my property and bring the cats in to them so they can be adopted out to people who will actually take care of them--instead of my neighbors who leave them out year-round---even in January when there are blizzards and temps below zero! Tamara

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

tamara, if the people leave them out in sub-zero temps, then you are doing the right thing. if they were good owners, i would say to try reasoning with them. they may not even belong to anyone, so if they have a chance for a good home, then i'm glad you're providing that chance.

Thornton, IL

Tamara - That is a nice thing to do, stray cats suffer a lot.

Painesville, OH(Zone 5b)

I know who the cats belong to, and also know the owners do nothing when their cats do damage to other people's property. Unfortunately, the rest of the neighbors just gripe, but do nothing. Besides crapping in my garden, these cats also do their business in my friend's sandbox that our babies play in! In fact, her 1 y.o. daughter was digging in the sand the other day and picked up a piece of poop and almost put it in her mouth! Thank God her mom was quicker than she was! It's not the cats I'm mad at...they are only doing what comes naturally. But the owners don't care about their neighbors or their cats, so I'm going to relieve them of their responsibility. It will probably make them hate me, but I'm tired of being like everyone else--all talk and no action. Tamara

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Tamara - I used to call the neighbor each time his dog got loose and then came the day when they said, on the phone, they decided to let the dog run free! Of course, it's the owner's responsibility and not the dog's fault but I was upset and the guy asked if it bothered me. I told him, "Not in the winter, but when my flowers are blooming it will bother me very much". The dog was sent to a rescue pound.

People who refuse to be responsible shouldn't own pets.

Painesville, OH(Zone 5b)

AMEN, Pirl!!! Both of my dogs were strays that were rescued. It makes me feel really good to know that we rescued them from whatever terrible life they were living out on their own! Tamara

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

We've done just that three times!

My summer shorts (Royal Robbins nylon) and my Vasque work/hiking boots all come off ebay now. My first Vasque boots bought in a store were over $125, now I might spend $15-25 or so with shipping.

On some items, it's hard to find a real bargain. I want a Country Living Grain Mill, have been "watching" for 2 years, and while most go for a bit below retail, not really much lower. Which also means no warranty as they are resales.

OH MY!!! Please don't get me started on ebay.. I live on ebay as i love it.The two pages i have open all day long is Daves and Ebay :oP When me or my hubby can't find something we want or a hard to find item, I say lets go to ebay, they have it all. I buy everything on there from makeup, clothes, sunflower an/or turtle items, electronics, movies, books and cast iron skillets lots of free coupons and i am sure lots more but it's early in the morning and can't think straight.
I also sale on ebay and have made quite abit of money on there...the only problem is i buy stuff as soon as i make the money. I am like addicted to it. I look for the weird stuff and old stuff. Like i was looking for those aluminum cups, think they are from Bascal the one's with the pretty colors....blue, green yellow red etc... well they are on there....I mean you can find just about anything on there, you just have to know or rather think of what others would use for there titles. Some use weird titles so you really have to think.
Anyway, as you can tell I LOVE ebay and have had some really good experiences on there. So as it was stated above just read and READ others feedbacks and you will do good.

Have a Great Day All,

Char

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Char - you said "wierd stuff". Now that I have a collection of salt cellars (something I had never given any thought to before finding eBay) I'd like to know if that qualifies as weird!!! One needs a special light to see the colors and I don't have the light but don't want it either. It's fun.

red princess: re ebay addiction. It sure can happen, and it is hard to move beyond it. I took a course in jewelry making, and because I live in the Toolies, there was only one source of beads about 45 miles away. I found the answer on e-bay. beads galore. I think I was blowing all of my extra money on beads for 3 or 4 years.

I finally moved beyond my addiction by getting really good at designing necklaces. I moved to the level where I wanted real gemstones of the highest quality. Now they are on ebay as well. But you have to be more discerning if you have better taste. It was a learning process, though. And I learned you can move beyond a buying addiction. By buying better, more expensive stuff, you cannot possibly afford to buy tons of it!

Coolest, latest? Climbing "Pink Mermaid" from Ashdown Roses....with no thought whatsoever as to where I will be able to plant it. Can grow 20' and more! Oh, but it's so lovely, I just HAD to get it. Track, I'm sure you can relate to this.

if someone doesn't check ebay before making a purchase then they must just want to throw their money away....; so much savings there;

ex) i went to an antique show ...largest one in the US...i found a book that they wanted 15 bucks for....it was torn up...i didn't want to pay 15 for a torn up book...
came home from the show...the book is being sold on several sites from 25 up to 165.....(wah)...then i was mad i didnt buy the book; i wait, and wait and wait.....keep searching ebay; yesterday, i got 2 of the books in one auction for 5.99....OMG; go figure, i kept reading the auction as to why noone else didn't bid....and can't figure it out....the seller even put in the auction how valuable the books were....she encouraged you to do an ebay search as they were very valuable....; i guess she started the auction at 5.99 thinking that it would go WAY higher and no one else bid.....i made sure to pay for the item ASAP; plus i put insurance on the time.....just in case she has sellers remorse and somehow tries to keep the items....(which of course she still could and say they were stolen etc)....which is some of the bad that happens on ebay....but she has good feedback; i will post later to make sure to tell all when/if i receive them and what was wrong with the items.....

i could go on and on and on and on....i spend about 3 hours a day on ebay....too much to miss at dirt cheap prices..

While not a recent online purchase, one of my favorite
purchases via Ebay was a crying onion. I thought it was
a small pot, maybe an incense burner, an onion keeper,
whatever.

When it arrived, I was shocked at how large it was. Heck,
it could easily be a cookie jar. It has a pointed top with holes
in it, as well as holes in it's nose, and is crying. It is a very
attractive piece, not cartoony, but very well made and
glazed in a pleasant color.

:-)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Is it supposed to be used to store onions?

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

You know, that is a good question. Even the seller did not know
what it was, she sold it as an incense burner. I believe it could
very well be used to store onions. It doesn't appear to be something
one would put in the oven, so I guess 'Crying Onion Man' is a keeper
in more ways than one.

:-)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Quite interesting. Or, I guess, it could be a gigantic potpourri pot.

WUVIE: Now all you need is one of those antiques people to tell you its history and that its worth $5,000.00.
