Best thing/worse thing and what did you learn today????

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Best thing? My son came to visit, bearing gifts! He brought a
new digital camera for me!

Worse thing? My internet provider shut off our service for two
and a half days! Ugh!

What I've learned? That most people on the internet have no patience at all.
"I haven't heard from you in ten minutes."

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Best thing...It was a good day at work today. I was able to work in a different area, all by myself, no distractions, got a lot accomplished. No phones to answer, no chatting with co-workers, set my own pace. I loved it.

Worst thing...I ate two doughnuts after work so didn't want supper. I felt like a pig.

Lesson...No matter how busy you are, you can always squeeze in one more thing. We only THINK we can't do something because we don't WANT to do it. But chances are, we can.

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Fun thread!

For April 30th:

Best thing: Got off work early to play in the garden.

Worst thing: Had a quarrel with DH and as a result, I only had a chocolate bar for dinner (didn't have the desire for much else)

Learned: A chocolate bar for dinner doesn't really fill you up proper.

Erynne :o)

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

You are right WUVIE, when you are used to dealing on internet time your perspective can be skewed. Attention: there is life beyond the keyboard, give us overnight or a couple of days. We are still here. That was not directed to anyone in particular.

Nap, where have you been? and what kind of doughnuts?

No hijacking the thread; I am just so glad I found it. Makes me think - which is a good thing.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Oh yes thinking is good. Puts a different perspective on life!

Worse thing: had to go to work instead of working in garden!

Best thing: This is hard because there were several! einy! meiny! miny! mo!
A friend came into work and we had a really good chat!

What I learned: That no matter how depressing the morning can start out it only gets better when you stop at the green house to do some shopping! LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

NO such thing as hijacking the thread..let it go where it wants to..but so far I've enjoyed getting to know you all...
Wuvie...you'll have to share some photo's..still trying to figure out how to add photo
without all the writing on it..but bet the visit from your son was the best thing that
happened
Nap.. you'll never believe it, I as well stopped by and had Tim Horton's walnut special..
very sweet...about 10 I was starving but decided to go to bed..this morning my
Western sure did taste great..and you are right..I only put of doing what I don't
want to do..lately though, I put it as priority on my list then everything else comes
easy...

Erynne..Hope today goes better for you and you've made up with DH..working in the
garden always brings joy to the day...
Bluekat76..so glad you are joining us...have a great day!
Ves 522..what a wonderful day you had, friends visit and gardening...and I certainly
agree with you, a trip to the nursery makes ones day..now you know why you
have to work..play for the lovely plants/shrubs...
The_Wonder_Downunder...how's that puppy doing????
Betty.... well, I watched as all the siding is off the house..((got permit from Township late
yesterday (thank God for that) lol)) and although the men are trying to watch the
plants and shrubs, I'm sure that many will not survive the renovations..oh well,
always next year ...I so do want to thank everyone for participating, just like
gabbing with friends...
GiddyMoon..sure hope today brings sunshine into your life...anniversaries sure are
difficult...
Balvenie..hope Sunshine is out in your neck of the woods and that your sweetie's back..

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Bluekat, thanks for making me laugh!!

Double chocolate and apple fritter...the latter was just coming out fresh and was loaded with glaze. Couldn't resist. And Betty, of course mine were Tim Horton too. I think most folks here don't know about Tim Horton. Their loss, eh?

Best thing...I was running late for work and got a parking spot much, much closer to the building than usual. I punched in only one minute late.

Worst thing...I was running late at the END of my workday too, and had to stay an extra fifteen minutes.

Lesson...God uses people, even when they don't realize they're being used, to make a statement to someone else. I said something to someone today, and she told me it was like our conversation was scripted by God Himself. I unknowingly told her something from my past that exactly fit her own current dilemma.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Best thing?
I woke up alive, as did my family and friends.

Worst thing?
Wow. I am really going to have to think about this one.
It's been a fabulous day! I guess if I have to pick something,
it would be the noodles stuck to the pan because I should
have stirred more often.

What I've learned today?
That my habit of making lists of things I do or need
to do really is a good thing.

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

Best thing today: lots to choose from - perennials were planted instead of dying on my deck, spent time with a friend talking, cooking and laughing. Good stuff

Worst thing: Realizing I might need to sell the house instead of throwing my money away clinging to a dream

Learned: to appreciate friends who really care and have good advice. Actually listening and thinking about the advice.

Carmichael, CA

Let's see,

best thing, I got more done outside...you know, the kind of stuff you can actually look at and see results?? lol..that feels really good! To have the perfect weather to be able to accomplish things is awesome.

Worst, my poor daughter was sent a Pampered Chef checkerboard cake pan as a gift from one of my MILs and she had a lot of trouble getting her cake to come out the way she wanted...she was so mad! lol

What I have learned?

I really need to keep emergency beers in the fridge...

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

Warm beer not good? LOL That cake pan takes practice but she will like it.

-Kim

Carmichael, CA

NO beer not good either! LOL

Yea, my daughter does not have the greatest amount of patience. lol

But cake chunks are yummy!

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

I don't drink beer either but I do eat cake chunks!

Carmichael, CA

Yea, and now I got off the couch and I feel sick from the cake chunks...but they were yummy. lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Tuesday was a great day..found the $10,000 cheque that I had lost and wanted to deposit..felt sick about it for a week now..so that's a relief...
worse thing that happened to me was coming home expecting that the contractors had started the siding..knew they were waiting for roof trusses..guess I'm getting a little to anxious..maybe today..
I learnt that although in my mind and soul I had thought I had put a lot of the past behind me regarding hurts that it can resurface when you least expect it...sometimes it only takes one conversation or one call and back to step 1 but, today's another day!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

well here's my post for today..

Best thing so far today is that I got up....

Worse thing: work for a bankruptcy firm and a previous client came in and wanted a letter written to the trustee..we don't do it, but I though why not help her out..she wasn't feeling good so why not...she was on her way to trustee's office to deliver her papers and the letter when she called and said she left her purse here in my office and would come by for it...hadn't even noticed it, but o.k. that was this morning..she just called and said that I MUST have gone through her purse and took her money..ALL $50.00 worth...I'm just shaking...here I'm sitting with a cheque for $10,000. and about $250.00 cash..why would I ever need to steal...in fact, girls in the office said knowing me it would be more my way to put money in her purse...I can't seem to settle down...that's what you get for trying to help someone...

then the contractor telephone, picked up all the siding and it was wrong..the board and batten I chose doesn't come in Ivory..so I picked an alternate color and it's a 4 week wait, then I picked another and doesn't have the woodgrain...so, don't know what I'll do about that...

Could go after work and see what my alternatives are....but I'm teaching painting tonight..haven't taught all winter so was going to be great seing them...so confusing..

what did I learn....I could say not to help anyone anymore - but that wouldn't be me...that regardless of well laid plans-sometimes they just don't come together...and my son is colored bline..(sent him website of siding company..they show you a house and you can add different colors of siding and trim and roof to see what you like...thought he'd help me make a choice-BUT he says he's colored blind and I plumb forgot...

JUST NOT A GOOD DAY! Hope yours went well though....

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Betty pauze hope tomorrow is lots better. Some days you just can't win!

Worse thing today: getting up at 4:30 to go to work.

Best thing: getting done at 11:00 and coming home and taking a long nap.

What I learned: That a day can be lots worse then what it was!

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Best thing?
Ran into my parents in another town in a box store, had lunch with them.

Worst thing?
Had to tear a part of the house off to get our sissified cat out.
Ti Wi Li was under the house and could not (read...was too lazy to) get
her big rump to the front end so she could get back out.

What I've learned today?
That three days of rain will make ANYTHING grow overnight.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Best thing.....................

Knowing that I have so many friends on here that if I really REALLY needed them and needed a chat, comfort or prayer, they would be there.

Worst thing....................

Knowing that my many friends are often over 16,000 miles away... sigh..

Lesson?

Be thankful for what you DO have. Friends are friends no matter where you find them!

p.s puppy is doing well. will post a pic as soon as i can keep him still!

Springfield, OH(Zone 6a)

The best and worst thing about today is my Father would have been 72 today, we lost him 2 years ago, he was very ill. He has really been on my mind a lot lately, but the difference is that lately I am remembering all the funny, really ornrey things he used to do, instead of all the deaply painful memories of his illness. Maybe what I'm going to be learning today is...... already written in these first few lines.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning..sunshine is enough to brighten everyones day..
Nap..have my Tim Hortons right beside me....yum/yum...
Wuvie..my children say I can even burnt water...grandson was telling me how terrific I am
in everything I can do..guess he felt guilty about making me the star of his life when
he came back and said his other grandman ' well she can cook from scratch..'lol
with this lovely weather, beautiful to see plants/shrubs and trees come alive....
Bluekat76..will say prayers in hopes that you can keep 'your dream'
GiddyMoon....have you put your energy beers in the refrigerator yet? bet cake tasted
good....
Ves22...get up at 4:30 everyday as well...long drive to work 100 miles each way each
day, but gives us time to unwind...nice to have an even keel day isn't it?
The_Wunder_Downunder...looking forward to seing your photo's of your new dog..son
and grandchildren brough theirs over last night to show me...new type of breed..1/2
yellow lab and 1/2 poodle..so cute..her name is 'Sophie'
Crashbandiscoot....lost my father about same time and he was 76...without realizing it
just before these special anniversaries you feel agitated...for awhile it was difficult
to remember anything...now memories are returning..but I sure do miss him..when
ever we saw him he'd say hi Sharon and I'd say Dad I'm Betty - I'm the good looking
one..and when he saw my sister he'd call her Betty and she'd say the same...sure
do miss my 'daddy'...

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

Yesterday -

Worst thing: Finding out my friends' mom is in the hospital with a possible brain injury from a fall; she is only 54. They are still doing tests. She doesn't know anyone and just babbles nonsense. It has been 9 days now. Sad and Scary. I hope the damage is not permanant and her brain will heal over time.

Best thing: went to dinner with a new friend/co-worker and enjoyed every minute!

Learned: I guess that one is obvious - life can change in a heartbeat, make every day count. Also, make sure you have a will and whatever other paperwork necessary so your wishes are known if something happens. My friends' mom had done this and it is one less thing to deal with.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Day here at work is almost over..thought I'd post because won't have the opportunity tonight..

Best thing: Lady from yesterday called to apologize, she had put her money inside pocket of her jacket...said she had taken medication and wasn't thinking very cleary..thanked me for the help I gave her yesterday..everyone allowed mistakes right?

Worse thing..realizing that much of the world prefers to see the negative in people rather than the best..and that's the last you'll hear from me on the subject...

What did I learn... makes me appreciate the life I have and the friendship that surrounds me..including you all!!!

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

A toast to that, Betty.

:-) (raising my iced tea)

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Bettypauze I love this thread! It makes a person think of what is important to them or what strikes them as important at the time. It all depends on the mood.

Worse thing: woodticks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best thing: the life I have and my friends here. I cheated that's 2! LOL

What did I learn: I can still get alot of work done even when I am sore and still have another day off to get more done!

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Hi Betty!

Best thing: Went to a plant sale before work today and got the hosta I've been wanting plus other goodies.

Worst thing: The drive thru person forgot the sugar in my coffee and I was already 5 mins along on the highway before I realized it.

Learned: The older I get, the harder it is to get that tired look off my face in the mornings.

Cheers,
Erynne

Victoria Harbour, ON

You are all so enjoyable...
Wuvie...think I'll open that bottle of wine son gave me...he and DIL made it last year..but then 1/2 glass and what do I do with rest...better cook a turkey and baste it with it right?

Ves522..woodticks? what am I thinking of..forgot the name...son was quite ill a few years ago, on his hip he had a dark colored growth that kept bothering him..his wife kept insisting he should have it checked..when he finally did it was at the dangerous stage..they operated and took a biopsy..now I KNOW you'll not believe this because I barely did..when the Doctor put it on the table, the piece virtually walked away...anyway, he had to have operation, was very ill, took mega pills etc. so please Ves522..not sure if the tick you are speaking about is something similar, but do be careful..can cause death!!! Not cheating either..having those 2 things are the best thing in life ...

Erynne...I'm laughing at your comment...being tired at our age certainly does show..friends keep wanting to find me a mate, I'm only 59 but golly gee I feel older sometimes...it's so funny, see some attractive men and when they tell me how old they are (now this is just in general conversation with them) I can't believe that I must look that old to them...sitting here laughing away to myself...

Maybe we should have a thread that says what did you do for yourself today...then we could add, relax in bubble bath, listen to good music, enjoy watching life stroll bye...

You all have yourselves a wonderful evening...and yes, I insist, do something for yourself..

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

waaaaaaaaaaahahahhaah
That is so TRUE!!!
I cant get that look off mine too!

Best thing?
You made me laugh at a time im finding difficult...

worst thing.............. peoples discrimination due to my weight

what i have learned..... better to look for the laughs than think about the narrow mindedness in the world.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Best thing today is my Dad's endoscope (sp) test looked fine

Worst thing today is having a negative persons view sour a thread

What I've learned is that trying to carry to many bags AND a bleach bottle at the same time is a BIG NO NO, and the caps don't win the battle against the concrete floor.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

oh by the way...

Meet leopold..............

Thumbnail by The_Wonder_Downunder
Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Aw, what a cutie, Wonder!

Best thing?
I have standing permission to remove plants from
an old homestead due for demolishing. Today I dug up some of
the most beautiful Iris and planted them about the gardens. Ahh.

Worst thing?
I'm tired and ready for my shower, but have two boxes of daylilies
to plant before I can call it a day.

What I've learned today?
That whining about it isn't going to get it done.

Pacifica, CA

oh wonder, what a cute dog!!!

great thread....

best thing: i got a unexpected bonus check at work

worst thing: our wild malard ducks at work got irritated
at us and bellowed in the back door they were hungry
we jumped to their defence quick they have left us packages on the hardwood floor before lol

what i've learned today:that it is nice to come to work and have a group of gals, boss included who all get along and can laugh togeather all through the day

liz

Carmichael, CA

Best,

love being home for my kids

Worst,

really windy

Learned, Zuchinni can grow 2" in one day!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Best thing: A phone call from my dear friend who just moved out of State last month. I miss her very much and it was so good to hear her voice and laugh with her.

Worst thing: I had a legitimate question for a higher-up at work, but I guess she was having a bad day, and seemed to think my motive was inferior, because she sort of belittled me with her answer.

Lesson learned: I was so tempted to respond to her sarcasm with some sarcasm of my own, but instead I just acted as if she had not been rude to me. I know that was the right thing to do, because she got very nice with me after that and it could have become a disaster if I'd responded in kind. In the end, I feel that it was I who came out on top. No one else was around to know it, but that's ok. I know it...and I think SHE knows it too.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sunshine in abundance today...doing my regular hi to you all...

The_Wonder_Downunder - I so enjoyed your post..hope we do bring some joy into your life..people can go either way, fight to believe in all that is good, or, as many do - believe only the worse...excess weight DOES NOT diminish the value you give to the world..don't let anyone bring you down...makes you just that bit more 'cuddly'..you know the saying...ewes not fat..ewes just cuddly....you have a friend here if you ever need to call on someone during those hard times...know you are far away..but only a sec. by telephone and internet...I'm sending you sunshine today!!! Leopold is adorable, what breed and how old??? ..I called Greg last night to come over and bring 'Sophie' over so I could take a photo to show you the new addition..she's 1/2 yellow lab and 1/2 poodle..so cute..lab with curley hair...boys have really taken to her..so has grandma..maybe I can dog-sit..

Aranes...you are so right, with all the terrible things going on in the world, why would anyone prefer to focus on it..why not try and believe in the best..it happens, it is, and am glad you are a positive individual...know what you mean as well with javex..dropped some down the side of my new outfit..now it's a custom outfit as I've painted a beautiful design to hide the bleach marks..everyone thinks I've purchased a 'designer outfit' will post it tonight if I think of it..as for the floor...paint something faux over the area..that works

Wuvie, you hit pay dirt..bet there are some heritage plants there for sure...lucky you..what a find..love daylillies..we have one of Ontario's largest 'lillyfarms' up the street..Erynne posted last night that when she visits her sister in same town as I she always makes the trip..hope she calls in so I can go spend my $$$ too...lol. Right about the whinning, just get up and get at it..I'm an early riser..up at 4:30 for work every day, so weekend is much the same..by noon most of my work is done and then it's time for play...

LizRainey..we're please to meet you, now what will you do with that bonus money during gardening season????lol..am sure that made your day..we have mallards as well..think if you go to my photo album you'll see some of the girls painting mallards on the back of their Muskoka chairs..they do become tame..this morning coming into work, now we're talking city..two 'Canada Geese' were troddling along with 7 little ones...I've seen them there, near one of the largest commercial malls trying to live their lives in the midst of all the traffic..there must be water around for them to want to stay..we stopped, watched and enjoyed...neighbor told me on Monday that early in the a.m. a couple of wild turkey's were strutting their stuff down our street...hope they won't end up on someones' table...

I am much as you are in my office..probably because it's a family business ... it's great..BIL was used to being an ogre..when I started and he'd took one of his hissy fits
I broke down in tears..not used to bad manners..anyway, he apologized and it has never happened again..and it's funny, sometimes when he's annoyed with clients/collectors etc. as we're a bankruptcy firm, I can see he pulls himself together and speaks softly..now, when his daughters (both work with us) and my SIL (his sister) want something or trying to con him for something, they choose me...he always gives in..so I'm glad that you enjoy your job..makes life so much more bearable..

GiddyMoon..are you a stay at home mother...that's more than a job..and an underpaid job at that..but the joys you get from the young ones - Zuchinni's...never grew them but your soil and weather must be A1 for them to grow 2"...I did grow, nurture and baby gourds though..it grew almost into a snake like creature..was growing it to paint it into a birdhouse...now I just watch it..it dried out over the winter..will have to post photo's so you can give me ideas as to what new form it could take..enjoy gardening today...oh, did you see those molds they sell...you put the seeds i.e. zuchinni when it's in a smaller state and the plastic mold (faces, animals and the life) is set on the soil..as the zuchinni grows..you have a wonderful piece of art..it's in the Lee Valley catalogue...that might be something you could do with the kids..

Nap...with internet and telephones, she'll not be far from you...is it to far for you to drive say on the next long weekend? Surprise her - or not??? lol You did come out on top..because you are who you are..it's nice when later in the day you can see that she realized she was in err...some individuals don't know how to apologize but show it in different ways..glad you saw hers..your behavior should be commended...hope you enjoy today...

So please and overwhelmed that this thread has gone the direction in which I hoped it would and that you don't mind my little posts acknowledging your posts...hope I don't miss anyone in the process...if I do..just drop me a line...

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Betty,

Don't apologize for your posts, I love that you have and
take the time to acknowledge individuals. I often don't have
time to, but would love to be able to do so.

You keep up the good work on this thread. It will no doubt
stay a very active thread.

It is the one place I think people can let down their hair and
get to the root of the matter, pardon the pun. LOL.

Today's best thing thus far? I made two suppers last night so
we have leftovers all ready for lunch today.

Worst thing? Every yard sale item I wanted was already sold.

What I've learned? That if I tie a ribbon from a decorator pillow to
the post on a little bench, our dog can't take it. LOL.

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Hey Everybody!!
Hope everyone is having a great day thus far.

Betty, I will take you up on a visit one day when I get up to your area. I'll just post to you here because I don't want to hijack AngelSong's thread about surprise visiting.
I can't wait to go up to Gratrix's Lily Farm again and I hope when I come up there that we can take a spin over together. Every lily and hem that I've bought from there has done very well and soooo healthy.

I haven't figured out my best thing, worst thing or thing I learned today yet but you sure have made me look at my day a little differently.

Hey, and don't let any of that negative stuff bug ya. This too shall pass.

Erynne

P.S. 4:30 in the morning......oh my sickness......I'm comatose at that time.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Best thing today is we are having company for lunch so I get to make a fuss

worst thing is we are having company for lunch so I had to clean *LOL*

What I'm learning is that if I'd clean 15 minutes a day like I should I wouldn't have anything to B*&%^ about! *G*

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

best thing: found out my boss complemented me to another employee.

worst thing: found a lump on one of my clients - on her back and had to tell her and show her in the mirror. I hope it is nothing.

learned: I have too much junk in this house to find what I need

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Well thankyou, i reallly needed to hear that.

My puppy is a cavalier/shitzu and he is 10 weeks old now.
He sleeps with us! lol He is spoilt but we only have to get up with him once in the night and then 7am for his breakfast.
I love him and he came at a time when i needed him most.

Best thing...................................
Reading and writing on this thread.

Worst thing....................................
Just taking time to get over the problems i have at work and being discriminated against because of my weight. its really hit me hard strangely enough and its taking time to deal with and know how to handle.

What I have learnt...............

People are mean and nasty becuase they dislike themselves so much. That is their poison and I dont have to drink it!
