And it was the parent of many hybrids.
Daylilies - question
It's Al who has Becky Lynn....just went through last years "Whats Growing..." forum and found it was him!
Yes, Dave SD's have their virtues. But once they become omnipresent, *that's* part of the problem!
LOOK at what I found on the internet...it says these are long lasting bloomers.....
http://www.perennials.com/hea.html
I came upon it while researching Happy Returns.
Dawn - Here's Plant Files page on Happy Returns:
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/27473/index.html
Note at the top that 11 vendors have the plant for sale. Price isn't always what it seems since many nurseries send multiple fans even if the list it for sale as a double fan. Others hold true and will only send a double fan. If there are any Canadian suppliers check with Garden Watchdog as to their reputation.
Wow...I guess no one here would have any Rosy Returns for me huh? LOL I think I am sold on that one that is for sure. However I don't think I would be ordering from a nursery. I guess I will wait and see if they will sell them here once they start selling plants.
It's a violation of our laws, and yours, to send plants to Canada, Dawn. Sorry, but that's how it is.
OMG really??!!! Hahaha I had no idea! Wow I could have become a criminal...hehehee. Yikes!!! Thanks pirl - like I said I had NO idea. Ignorence isn't always bliss I suppose.
I made the mistake last year and feared the RCMP would come after me but no such luck.
Hahaha we would all see your picture on the Gardners Most Wanted List LOL!!!! Now that would be funny. I am thankful you shared that with me though cause I honestly had no idea - I never even would have thought of that. I guess the RCMP would have been looking for both of us hehehe. What a great chance to meet - behind bars hehehe.
Dawn - I'm just not THAT old that I figured I'd be behind bars. Maybe something more interesting.
Ok ok but it was just a funny thought.
Oh another thing...I I were to buy those bagged lilies...you know they look like tubers or bulbs??- and planted them this spring - would they still flower?

Lilies bulbs can be planted in Spring for summer bloom.
Dawn, there is a huge sale on daylilies at HG Wild & son. Many good ones around $3.50 (except Rosey returns is still $10, the dreaded stella d'oro is $1)
Dawn - my thoughts were that the RCMP might make me their "Love Goddess" - see, anyone can dream!
If you're saying "lilies" - they are bulbs - Asiatics, Orientals, Trumpets, etc.
Many people refer to "lilies" (like my neighbor) and really mean daylilies - fleshy rooted perennials.
Oh pirl you just crack me up LOL! You nasty girl you!
Thanks for clarifying that they are bulbs.
I'm sure Love Goddess is a rough job but someone's got to do it!
You should know that many people in Western Canada refer to the RCMP as "real cold mashed potatoes" - don't know how that affects your aspiration as love goddess to the force :-)
That uniform, those slim and trim bodies, so firm................... we can all dream, can't we.
Calm down Pirl!
Hahaha pirl you are just cracking me up!
See that! Men try to squash my dreams too often. No fair! I wouldn't stop you, Dave, from dreaming about Rosie! Or is that termed a nightmare?
At least I'm good for something, Dawn!
Rosie who?
O'Donnell
The Rivetter (please)
Now that was a woman!
Seandor, you oughta go to Seawright's Nursery in Carlisle (or Concord) Mass. They have mountains of field grown daylilies. They have big picture books to look through if they aren't all in bloom. You could go there, ask for whatever you want in terms of color, fragrance, height, rebloom etc. and they're likely to have something for you. Then go to Blanchette's in the same town. (Just bring a refence book with you.)
Concord is near Boston, correct?
Yup, north of Boston off Rt3.
Okay - this is wierd. All the other threads I can view normally. But this thread seems to be elongated - so I have to slide the bar at the bottom of the screen to see the extreme right hand side. Is this happening to anyone else?
Not here. Try going to Dave's page and seeing if anyone else has the problem.
It has happened to me before. I think it has to do with the length of the thread
I am having the same problem since yesterday. Glad it's not just me! It's only this thread.
Same here..it just this thread...the others seem fine!
seems to be fixed this morning . . . weird.
Not for me.
Not for me...still looooooong!
Hey does anyone want orange daylilies - they are real cheap. I'll pay you to come and dig them up and take them away!! JK - just kidding!!!!!
This bank is full of them and I'm in the process of digging them up. Hope to get it done before they get to high. They did serve their purpose though. The soil,if there was any, was not very good, but these daylilies will grow and spread anywhere. Started with just a few plants from my mother and in the fall we pile our leaves from raking on top of them. As I've been digging them up the soil actually has improved. I will save a couple of plants in memory of my mother but put them futher down the bank. I plan on planting some "real" daylilies in the sunny area. My DH - dear husband doesn't know it but I'm thinking about maybe having some of those trees removed to get some more sun in the yard and onto my flower beds. We've bought a landscape bridge for the top of the bank and I would love to put a clemantis climbing onto that. (Victor has sold me on clemantis with the beautiful photos of his)
G.Phoeb, ask pirl to see her daylilies and you'll be hooked for life!! I have some. but pirl has soooo many that your head will spin trying to choose!!
Glad I inspired you to try some Clematis, grammy. They are great. One of the overlooked qualities is that they have virtually no footprint so they don't really take up space.
