suddenly I'm "watching" every thread I post to... ??

ecrane3, you took the words from my mouth. That is what I was thinking, but didn't explain very well.

I like the new feature. However, a minor adjustment should be made. After clicking on all the watched threads - when you go back to your homepage, the 'New?' column still shows that a new post has been made to your watched forums, even though it's the post in the thread you just read!! That needs to be fixed.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

That's not a bug, it happens because you never actually visited the forum page and there are other threads besides the one you were watching that have new posts. If you go straight from your watch list to a watched thread and then back to your home page, it'll take that thread off the new posts list, but since you never actually went to the main page it doesn't think that you went to that forum so the forum will still show up that it has new posts. Hope that makes sense!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

It does make sense but is that that case even if the watched thread you just visited is the ONLY thread in that forum that had new post??

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I've never tested that, every time I've had a watched thread come up there were also other new posts in the forum.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I am testing it now. Waiting for a new post to my watched thread. I believe it is the case which would make it a shortcoming in my view.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

mine does not do that, victorgardener....only if a new posts has come up does it show the thread....I waked up this morning to a dozen threads to check....once I read the new posts.....it disappeared.....
this is the best thing to happen computer wise on DG since I joined!!!

I have seen it too Victor...I usually just click quick on the page then back again...maybe we should have a thread watcher, and the other one, our forum watcher, instead of telling us when there is a new "post", it could just tell us when there is a new "topic" posted??? I have quit watching a few forums, because there are so many posts made to one thread and never a new topic started, I just get tired of always going to see which it is....lol....espescially if it's a thread I'm not interested in...now, if it told me there was a new topic started, I'd put em back on my watched forums list...does this make any kind of sense at all???

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Okay - my test showed that is the case. Even if the only new post was in one of your watched threads, when you go back to your homepage, the forum in which that thread appears shows a new post was made, though it was only the one you just saw by clicking the watched thread link. That should be changed because it's misleading.

Terry said Dave will fix that bug when he gets the chance.

I like it! If I don't want to watch the thread, I can easily click on "unwatch", just as I used to click on "watch". The better thing this way (once I get used to it) is that if I forget, I can certainly find it to correct later - 'cause it will show up on my page. Before, if I forgot to click on "watch" (and I often did just that), the likelihood that I would see the thread again was pretty small. I said a lot of "Durns" - sort of... ;-D

BTW, I'm glad I saw this thread, because I just experienced the new feature, and it messed with my mind. Was it always that way? How could I forget? That is not something you want to experience at my age....LOL!

Have to agree with Gitagal, Like: OH, that is beautiful! Or--WOW! Pretty!. Nice picture! or such. , Wading through all that to get to something meaningful or informative trys my patience...

Thanks for seeing it the same way I do. It IS trying and takes too much time.

I was starting to feel like the lone voice in the dark.

For those like me who post once in a while all over the place this makes life easier.

I think the giant success of DG is twofold: The vast amount of knowledge available in plant files, etc. and the wisdom of Dave in knowing that learning is fun.....and should be......
Gardenweb doesn't have anything fun going on there....but the the knowledge you may be looking for with not the patience for people having a good time while learning is on that site.

I like the new way. If you lose interest in a thread, you can unwatch it just as easy as "watching" it.
