I hate to begin the day by bragging, but...

As if my husband weren't already the bestest
in the whole world.

Yesterday Wub went to the monthly auction down
the road. He often finds good things, but it is a rather
large auction, which means you may have to wait
all day long for the crowd to move to the row where
your desired items are located. I don't mind going with
him, but I'm a cold weather pansy and don't enjoy window
shopping much, especially if I have to fight someone else
over what I want.

So. In brief, last month hubby waited ALL day long
for filing cabinets. Not just ANY cabinets, but tall, four
drawer lateral files which run hundreds of dollars.
He brought home two in fabulous shape for thirty
bucks. Not a typo. Two HON four drawer lateral files
for the office. Cost new? As cheap as $319.99 and as
high as $509.99. Since he bought two, that would have
cost six hundred to one thousand dollars brand new!

Yesterday, he went to the auction again, despite the
very low temperatures. The night before, he asked what
I wanted. I half jokingly told him.

The next day I spent with my bestest ever sister in law,
then came home to find this in the living room:

How can I ever tell him how much I love him? :-)
I've wanted one of these since I was a kid!

Wuvie, you are one totally blessed woman. I don't know what makes file cabinets so expensive but I shopped for months before ending up with some cheap ones from Target just to get my office in order. And now you have a kiln?? That counts as a triple blessing.

Enjoy it all.

Sure did get a good deal! I taught ceramics at local community centre for a few years and fired class projects...you'll certainly get use out of your new gift....just think of the fun you'll have..

What a great guy! You are one lucky girl. I love auctions too but could never get my mate to go along with me. What have you got planned for that kiln?

Thanks, all. I'm so excited!

I guess you could say I was a flower child born a bit
late, LOL.

I've always loved the thought of having a kiln, way back
when I made an ashtray (no longer needed) for my father
in grade school. But my interest is not so much clay or
ceramic as it is glass.

In a 1980 Mother Earth News, I found a glass craft by
Judy Sizemore. I am bound and determined to make
similar items and can't wait!

I've ordered a manual for the kiln and am impatiently
waiting.

Is it glass sagging that you want to do?

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Hi Betty,

I'm still waiting on my kiln manual to arrive, so I'm
surfing the internet to decipher all these terms.

Slumping, warm glass, hot glass, annealing, firing.
Many terms, but if I had to explain what I want to do, I
would just call it melting. LOL

At this point I only wish to melt bottles down to make
various items.

I've never heard of sagging. Is that a bowl method?

If two or more pieces of glass in contact are heated, they begin to soften and fuse together. With careful heating and cooling, the separate pieces of glass become one.
If glass is put on a mould and heated, it begins to soften and collapse, or sag, onto the mould: a common technique for making bowls and plates.
Sagging or slumping are often thought of as being the same. Correctly: during sagging, heated glass, supported at its edges, sags down in the

Karen,
I think you'd really enjoy browsing through the glass craft catalog from Delphi.
www.delphiglass.com there's extraordinarily wonderful pieces of glass and ideas. The selection of glass and the molds are really top notch.
Your husband made a great find!!
