Time to show off those daffodils!

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

Love the picture of Thalia against the darkening sky!
Beautiful shot of the fortissimo!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Janet, your 'Replete' is catalog perfect!

'Thalia' is among my very favorites too:

I believe my unidentified double above is 'White Lion' after browsing Plantfiles:

http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/65959/

I'm still trying to find this one. The cup turns pinkish, and I think 'Pink' is in the name, but I have turned up nothing so far. It came from Buggycrazy in '05, and I think it is an old variety. Any ideas?

Wow, lots of wonderful, cheerful daff photos on this thread! I've mostly got early yellow varieties blooming so far.... but some others are starting to bud up! Hopefully that forecasted hard freeze (24 for a low on Friday -- eeek!) won't destroy them.

Neal, those little yellow daffs you shared with me are blooming their heads off this year! They are so pretty ringing around the base of Jim's mimosa tree...

Ooohhh, I'm thrilled to see their cheerful blooms in your garden! Spring is coming a little later for you than us this year; my Lent lily daffs are all gone now.

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Here's a combination that is sort of working--- daffodil 'Acropolis' with tulip 'Beauty Queen'.

The issue is the tulips are in pots, but I guess I could transplant them into the ground for a more natural 'look'. (That's creeping phlox that gives the clashing pink effect on the left. On second thought, maybe I should keep the 'Beauty Queens well away from that space!)

And here's my little bouquet of white daffs I picked this morning. I am sure Gem could do a wonderful job of arranging these! (I am still trying to ID some of these.)

A couple of days ago I was complaining that daffs I planted in Dec did not flower for me and I attributed it to the crazy weather we had this winter. Sure enough and just to prove me wrong, I had some beauties this morning. Here is Thalia, such a delicate, pretty thang!

edited to say that I read some more about this one and learned this is a late spring bloomer, that may also explain why it just recently started blooming for me.

and here is ____, another beauty. Both were purchased from B&B

Edited to leave the name blank, as I thought I purchased Katie Heath, but this one doesn't look like it. Need to ck my journal.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

tabasco, I love 'Acropolis', and a real winner to combine with the phlox and/or tulips. Since the tulips are potted, easy to control the clash- such a good idea! I've actually cut an entire clump of tulips because the color was "wrong", LOL. I wonder how Tulip humilis would work with the phlox and Acropolis? Mine are a deep plum-magenta with yellow throats and have returned with more blooms this year!

But, back to Daffodils, I finally found my mystery pink from Buggycrazy- it is 'Passionale'. I need to get another pic of it now that it has turned peachy.

aahhhggg,...good grief, my "d" key just started making "r" whenever I typed "d"! kept saying "turner peachy" lol

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

I'm so loving everyones daff pic contributions, thank you!

Nery, I bet you were surprised! This is pretty late for those in your zone is'nt it? My end of season sale stuff from B&B is a few weeks behind everything else too. Did you catch the scent of 'Thalia'? I love to cut those for the fragrance.

A no id double I received as a freebie from Buggycrazy. I suspect an heirloom.

My very late 'Jet Fire'

Another no id, with 'Salome' and 'Thalia' in the background.

Vossner, I think your pink is 'Romance'. I know it might not look like the catalog picture, but the color was so bad here this year, maybe down in Texas, too. The edge of the cup on 'Romance' is scalloped like that and it's the only thing from B&B that would have that scalloped cup.

Suzy

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Suzy, have you grown 'Lorikeet'? Mine have been blooming for 4 days now and are still solid, golden yellow. I've been waiting to see if the cup would change color, but I can't detect any pink/peach in it at all. I wonder if it is too soon to call them mislabled. Very disappointing, they look like Carlton and cost a heck of a lot more!

This little cutie is 'Minnow'

Thumbnail by gemini_sage
Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Yes, I've grown Lorikeet and I would say it is never golden at any stage. It could be a faint buffy yellow (chamois) or a lemon yellow, but never a bright golden "daffodil" yellow.

Suzy

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks Suzy, just what I needed to know. Mine are bright, golden, daffodil yellow with deeper gold cups, so definitely not Lorikeet. Guess I need to email B&B.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Here is the one I thought was going to be Thalia. Such a pretty thing!

We had storms last night with heavy rain and wind, so today the stems are all mussed. Just had to cut a nice bouquet since they were laying down anyway :)

This is not 'Lorikeet' LOL

Now that does look like a double Thalia Neal, it's gorgeous!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Whoops, Yes that is Lorikeet -- I meant it isn't a deep golden like the petals on Jetfire...sorry. It just hasn't turned yet.

Suzy

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

I cut some blooms in case tonights freeze does them in. There is JetFire, Geranium, and Mary Copeland in this mix:

Thumbnail by gemini_sage
Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Wow! That is GORGEOUS!!!

The red hyacinths are truly wonderful... do you know the name? I would love a bunch of those here. I bought some of the amber-salmon-peach colored ones, but they don't want to stand up, they just sort of lean into the soil.

It's too windy to take pictures and it's too windy (and cold) to pick for the show on Saturday, o even pick for a vase. I am just sort of numb. Cold and numb.

Suzy

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

OH so beautiful ,what color. I too picked some outdoor flowers because of the freezing weather, but not as colorful,no tulips here yet.

Cinda

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Our cold weather must have made it's way to you! It's warming up here, temps in the 50'sF, even up to 16C, 61F!!

Neal, WOW!

My Narcissus poeticus type which grew itself in the hosta bed has one flower open.

Thumbnail by wallaby1
Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks! I'm in to bright :) Most of that is from my "55mph garden", can ya tell? LOL The red hyacinth is 'Jan Bos', from B&B last fall.

And speaking of B&B, Becky already emailed me back personally about 'Lorikeet'. They are such nice people to do business with. I sent her the pic and told her the jury is still out, as they still may turn color, that is if they don't freeze.

Central, UT(Zone 5b)

Now that's what I've been waiting for! Love that poeticus Wallaby. I really, really want some of those. I have a bed in the back that I just started adding bulbs to that I'll be adding a few of these to this fall. I had spent most of my plant budget on other things so I just bought a naturalizing narcissus mix this last fall. Seemed the most economical thing to do but now I don't know the names of the individual daffodils.

Pardelinum, that pic with the blue building as a back drop is wonderful. Love the mix of daffodils you have there.

Goldenfish I will be hunting for those beauties in the future. I love the multiple blooms and how dainty they appear.

Bonitin, Thalia is one of the first Narcissus I every bought and I will never have a garden that doesn't have at least a few of them planted somewhere. I fell in love with the gracful appearance of the Triandrus Narcissus. Your meadow is beautiful.

Gemini, what a beautiful bouquet. I'm amazed by the variety of daffodils you have.

Here is one of the daffodils that has begun to bloom that was part of my naturalizing mix.

I think I need to thin out this bunch of Thalia.

Here is a bunch of 'quail' that I need to dig up and move to another location.

Thumbnail by Ally_UT

and the last Daffodil that I grow... a single tete a tete

Thumbnail by Ally_UT
Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

A nice selection you have anyway Ally, someof those mixes have some gems!

I have another self setting one under the conker tree slightly different in form, the cup is a little different in colour and the petals not recurved. The other one could be N. poeticus recurvus but there are a few named forms. I wonder if these came in the soil dug from the drain, washed from who knows where or brought by a bird.

It was getting late so I took it against the sky.

Thumbnail by wallaby1
Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Gem, your bouquet is a knock-out! First prize winner at my garden club for sure!

I can't keep up with everyone's beauties! I love it that this thread is exclusively daffs and I can (sort of) keep everyone's comments organized in my brain!

Voss--can't believe you still have some bloom! Mine are almost kaput today although a few Cheerfulnesses (both yellow and white) blooms appeared last night despite the cold and wind.

I think this one may be 'Monticello'. What do you think, Illoquin?

http://daffseek.org/query-detail.php?photo2=f083936ad55b459b8ccab928bf06dd5b

(Or Chicken Hill--the only one on my 'show list' that I can't find a photo for in DaffSeek.)

Any thoughts?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Hi everybody!
Neal, I join everyone here in the WOW chorus. That is some arrangement. I bought Thalia because of one of your postings last year. I am buying h. Jan Bos because of your posting this year, lol.

Suzy, I reviewed my journal and I was supposed to get Katie Heath, however, it appears that is not what I have. I need to continue researching to see if it is in fact Romance. If Romance will grow in a southern garden, then I will let it go and but if not, then I will call B&B for restitution.

note to self: go smell Thalia.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Ally, great drifts of daffs you have! Love the split cup, and don't you just love Quail- the scent is lovely.

Janet, that true, fire engine red ring on that cup is gorgeous. I need to get some Poeticus types for lengthening the daff season. I love the ones wit green in the cup, which it looks like yours does! Is it fragrant? I'm thinking most Poeticus are

t, that is a beauty! It looks huge, how big is that bloom?

Nery, so glad to return the enabling favor, LOL. Glad you like the arrangement, thanks! I'm feeling gaudy as I get older, or maybe I should blame Kell for that, lol.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I think it's fragrant Neal, I've smelled a few lately so don't really remember! It is bigger than the recurved one, it's dark but I'll try to remember to measure it tomorrow.
