Where did they go?

Jefferson, GA(Zone 7b)

Ok, I posted this under bulbs with no response. Can someone please help me? I don't know if I did something wrong.

Last fall I bought a pack of 3 varieties of crocosmia bulbs. Emily McKenzie, George Davidson and Lucifer. I put all 3 out and some started to come up even though it was the wrong time. Again, some are starting to come up. All but one batch, don't remember which but it also didn't come up with the others in the fall. So I go out there poking around trying to figure out the problem. NO BULBS! What happened? I am not crazy and I know no critters got them or I would have seen them and no one stole them. Also, if it were critters, would they be so selective as to only eat one variety when the others are so close? I can't find them anywhere and I know I put them in. I don't even see anything that looks like rotted areas or partial roots. NOTHING!
Can anyone tell me what may have happened here? I think it is the Emily McKenzie's that are gone.

ga_peach.....if they were planted at my house, I'd know exactly where they went! I gave up planting bulbs in the ground a few years ago. MOLES &/OR VOLES

MYSTERY SOLVED - NOW HOW DO I HANDLE THIS COMPANY?

Okay, I went back out there and did some more digging today. I found little black spot in the dirt here and there. I assume this is where the bulbs rotted. And I mean there was nothing left. They rotted almost immediately cause they were too decayed to have been recent.

I live in GA and last year ordered this and other plants from a mail order company in OH. I would say that out of maybe 15 items, only 3 were good. The rest came rotted, wet, dead, soggy mush. Or I planted them and they died and rotted in the ground within days because they were only half alive when they came. I know it isn't me because I have kept everything else alive that I got from other sources. I even keep stuff alive that shouldn't grow in my zone.

Anyway, then on maybe 2 things they gave me gift certificates to fix the situation. This isn't working either because I don't want more substandard crap from them.

I kind of want to call them up and demand all my money back but that is like "fat chance." What would you do?

Call them up and demand your money back! The item did not perform as advertised! Explain politely that you are unsatisfied and you would like them to make the situation right. I have been pleasantly surprised by results from this approach in the past.

the few places I have ordered from (mail order/internet shopping) they all have great replacement policies/guarantees

I'd either email them with your original order # or call them. Don't yell (initially) as you may be surprised that they will do a replace/refund for you.

Can you say Garden Watchdog? If you haven't called them already, look up the company under Garden Watchdog and see what kind of rating they have. Then call them with some ammunition, like:

According to the Garden Watchdog on Dave's, you have a good reputation. Here is my problem ....

or

According to the Garden Watchdog on Dave's, you have a bad reputation and it's about to get worse unless ....

There are a lot of companies that are scared to death of Daves Garden Watchdog. Add your vote and results to it, good or bad once the issue has been addressed.

You know, I did call them and let's just say, their response was very typical of the feedback that is posted here. I did however, finally got a manager and think I am about to get it resolved. Had I been a member of Dave's at the time, maybe I would never have used them but I didn't know about Dave's then. I know better now though.

I have held off from naming them just yet because I see they do respond and don't want that to affect the 'fix' if any that I get. Funny thing though is even though they respond here on Dave's, it isn't worth a thing. Their responses only say like ' we tried to contact this customer but never heard from them'. Well I can't see that happening all the time and not only that, why not put an offer to fix it out there too, not just we tried to contact them. Also, they are in business with a rating like 17. How, I will never know. I guess just too many folks like me that didn't know about Dave's first.

Believe me, when all is said and done, I am gonna kiss and tell.

Olivia
