help me find a book, please...

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

I saw some mention somewhere of a book that was about weeds, and specifically what they're telling us about the conditions we find them in. I have NO idea what the title was, or who the author was. I've browsed the bookworm area, and will keep trying there, but am hoping someone knows what in the world I'm talking about.

Thanks!

Thanks, Farmerdill, I did an amazon search but it was SO vast. This title actually was something on the order of "weeds and what they are telling you" or something like that. I will go through the amazon site, though. Thanks.

Could this be it?

"Weeds and Why They Grow" by Jay L. McCaman

If it's not exactly it, it will do! Thanks, Joan. I think I found the one I had seen on about the 17th page of the amazon search, and it's out of print. But this one looks even better.

I just have such an astounding variety of "weeds" in the back yard, and I want to know what I'm killing before I kill it just in case I want to cultivate it instead. I'd taken the hoe to quite a bit of dichondra last year, and now I'm thinking of letting it be my groundcover between pavers in one area. It's just that, while I'd LOVE to have creeping thyme there, it seems to have a hard time thriving down here. So -- it should be a lot easier to grow stuff that wants to grow under my conditions, you know?

Thank you both for the help!

Joan, that WAS the book I'd seen. (Grinning sheepishly.) I got it and it's very informative, but no pictures to ID the weeds so I just ordered an Audobon field guide, which are usually good. I also ordered "Weed 'Em and Reap" by Roger Welsch -- what a great book! Educational, philosophical, and just a darned good read. I'll have to go to the book files with that one.

I'm glad it was the right one. :)
