Whats that sparklin in the hills??

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Where have I been? Did I miss anything? I missed everything didnt I?
My PC has been down. Just when I get back to DG and all!!!

phew.... *wipe brow* panick subsiding........

ok......

I feel its high time for an adventure.......

I wonder where mystic is.... roadrunner and the rest of the crew...... I ve seen somethin shiny in them there hills over near ayers rock and was thinking about taking a look see.
Of course I would have to get the old tractor out of the shed..... fire her up and see what she needs. Still got a few horses out back.
I have bed rolls and a billy for tea and coffee. Plenty of rashens if you like damper and lamb stew...
hmmm lets see... whats missing???

Oh yeah!!!! you are!

all aboard!!!
come on, lets forget ourselves for a spell and have some fun?
what y'all say?

I found a lot of sparklin goodies up there and thought you might like to come on along on the next expidition (cant spell). You know, you never know who your going to meet so........

" back in the saddle again, lalalal dum dee dum"

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

eerrrrr, okay I'll bite.

I got some cut out sugar cookies, in the shape of cloverleafs, topped with green frosting and magic sprinkles just in case we run across some leprechauns on the way to the sparklin hills.

Don't know where this is going but what the heck :)

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Well, if you're in Melbourne, stop by my auntie's house and
see if she wants to come. She lives on Wyans Street, you know.
I'd love to come myself, but I'm scared of snakes and creepies,
and you've got that lizard down there that runs on its back legs and
puffs up the ruffle around its neck, so you go first and let us know if
the coast is clear. Keep your eyes peeled for some opals for me -
I've always wanted an opal ring, but they say it's bad luck to buy an
opal for yourself. It has to be a gift, so send me one if you see a nice
opal laying around, OK?

In the meantime, don't forget your Waltzing Matilda.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

hahaha yes we do have those running lizards but they wont harm you and as long as we keep our boots on at night and hang up our bed rolls when we are not using them,,, its all good!.

Good on you merigold!!! thats the spirit! you never know whats going to happen on an adventure or where one might end up!
those cookies look good and surely will come in handy!

Now we surely are on a treasure hunt and opals can be found! Just ask roadruunner! we had many an adventure back in the day and some people found nice surprises in their mail!

so lets see who else turns up.

hmm perhaps if i mention to RR that elvis might be seen along the way..... she would come too!

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

i guess no one wants to play with us... :0(

well another day maybe...

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

Well that's unfortunate, coulda used a little adventure... ah well perhaps as you say...another day maybe.

The cookies are all gone now anyway :O

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

yeah it would have been fun!

North Augusta, ON

I'm always a day late and a dollar short.....shucks...just saw this thread, it would have been fun too...I even dug out my Daddys old canvas pack sack to help carry stuff......

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm always up for a new adventure.

Hi! Count me in on your next one.

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

What next one? What's wrong with this one? Come on, guys -
get your rear in gear and let's get out there and see what's
sparkling in them thar hills !

I will only say one thing here - there is something about Ayers Rock
that makes me nervous. I've heard that peculiar things go on there.
Do we need an ectoplasm detector?

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Ohhhhh.......you said ectoplasm. How about an electomaganetic field meter? I used that on a ghost tour I went on and the light flashed red.....over and over and over.

There's nothing wrong with this one.

Has anyone seen any orbs? Heehehehehehe.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

heheeheheh well, if your up to it...... why not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well we need supplies, those green magic cookies seemed a good idea!
now its hot in the middle of australia so you need sun block, hat, hiking boots, sleeping bag and tent, plenty of water, hmmmm what else?

now ayers rock was once owned by the aborigines and was taken by the white people. its sacred land. it has now been given back to them and they allow us to visit. but i flew over it not so long back and saw something sparkling...... hmmmm

its ancient and it holds a lot of secrets! we 'indianna jones's' will have to check it out!

can anyone tell me what its called now? Its no longer ayers rock..... go find out and thats your ticket on the trip!

good luck!

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

More magic green cookies on the way!

Well I searched it. It used to be Uluru has it gone back to it's aboriginal name?

Can't wait to go adventurin'

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

Oh my that's a might bit big for a rock!

Do we need special gear for possible close encounters (other than the ghostly kind)?

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

uluru is right!

all aboard!

yiou neve know what you can find out there... yes its a HUGE rock...... well, we may need some face paint to join in with the aboriginies if we meet any but thats usually made of local things around the uluru....
bring what you can......

dont forget the hat with the corks! the flies are bad!

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

I was wundering about the other worldly type encounters...in my brief reading this morning I ran across some info about ALIENS visiting Ayers Rock, think tin foil might come in handy :)

Crossville, TN

CCCCOOOOOOOEEEEE....put some damper in for me...save me a seat in the old "Bobcat"...you know I like to sit up front....I rather see where I'm going....more than where I been!@ Got my old Aussie hat with the AOL discs hangin on it...and my boomerangs.

None of you have been on an adventure with Laura yet....HANG ON!! You're in for a wild ride. (psssst....she can't drive this thing worth a darn!) LOL Jo

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Well, I'm coming along just in the hopes of seeing some
aboriginal art and hearing more about Dreamtime.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

oooeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!11 looky who's come on board!
"Psst, she see's Elvis where ever she goes!"

my my you should see some of the adventures we have been on! why RR has been dancin in a bar in the old west, i think she's married Elvis and even sheared a sheep in my back yard!!!

course i can drive this thing just watch!

VRooommmmmm!!!!! now where was the brake???hmmmm woooooahhhhh bobby.... i said stop not go!!!!
***CRASH**** boom.... ummm sorry folks,,, old bobby here is a might rusty... looks like i ran over a few of our supplies....

ya think the magic cookies will work as magic crumbs * guilty smile*.....

oh, I'll get the hang of it in no time... RR can you open up the shed and get the old trailer out to hook onto bobby? I think we are going to need it.... there will be a few people along for the ride and supplies.. tents.....
oh and ummm... better bring a first aid kit just in case!

Crossville, TN

Dang Woman! *jumping out of the way*....She can't drive Bobby worth a darn....and don't have the good sense to let someone else drive! I DID NOT marry Elvis...can I help it if I felt sorry for the fellow and let him come along on one of our adventures....he looked so lonesome hanging around Graceland when we were there.....

Where are we off to this time? I'll spruce up the trailer while you get Bobby out of that ditch you put him in!! Poor Bobby....he's sorry he ever came to us as a new, shiny, bobcat!

OK....now you know why we call her The Wonder.....looks like we have six on board now....Mahnot, Merigold, Knolan, Threegardeners...now we must shorten that name to Three.....and maybe Merigold to Meri....just call me RR and Laura...Wonder...we should wait to see if any more show up...I'm terribly sorry that our dear friend DMJ906 is in the hospital and can't ride along on this trip....maybe her DD, Momcat, will print this out and she can ride along in spirt!! Hi DJM honey! We love ya!

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

Alrighty I got myself a nickname even! That is a bit of a whild ride, got a bruise on my knee. Gathering the cookie crumbs, they'll be A'OK.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

wooohooo.....
can here the didjaredoo calling me!

lets hurry and load up!

you'all got goodies to make smores???? tried those on the last trip and my goodness were they good!
is it ok if i get your addresses off the exchange? Why??? *cheeky grin* you will all have to wait and see!

now... hmm sometimes in the desert it can get cold so i will bring some sheep skins.. ( good for the old rear end when travelling on bobby too!), maybe some ugg boots too......hmmmmm what else....

im itchy to get goin!

I'll just practice around here a little on bobby...... might give him a spruce up too! hmmm he was blue... maybe I paint him a nice...................*giggle* sparkles would be good she thinks to herself!

how about you all paint a little something somewhere on bobby thats from your neck of the woods! it will look cool!

I'll paint a swagman sitting by a billabong, some aboriginal designs in earthy tones... yeah bobby is looking real good, c'mon you guys, pretty up that there trailer!

right! I have a thick fluffy sheep skin here for DJM... Now you plant yourself there my gal..... you can even lie down if you want its sooooo comfy and look up at that blue sky! have you ever seen anything so beautiful?? now you can watch out for koalas and such in the trees... and if you see a kangaroo jumping by, here is a boomerang you can throw at it, they make good eating!!!! now careful, cos you could hit RR in the back of the head with it! *giggle*

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

I'm etching out a little scene from here on the Missouri River to paint up real purtty (as skill & time allows). A cliff with Sgt. Floyd burial monument (from Lewis & Clark expedition), a few corn stalks and a bit of the old might river. bobby will look cool with all our paintings!

Maybe I kin find some bows and arrows at the old museum to help out with the hunting...don't wanna starve!

Crossville, TN

OK....Here's my contribution to making Bobby beautiful.....after all...we roadrunners are FAST!

DJM...you watch that 'rang.....you can't throw that no better than Wonder can drive!!

I'm gonna take this time to study up on my Aussie Speak!

COOOOEEE....Jo

North Augusta, ON

I think I'm ready to roll, got the sunscreen (spf 75), redhead ya know, hiking boots, some homemade raisin bread to snack upon, a good supply of cherry whiskey( I won't notice Wonder's driving abilities :)) Even grabbed a gallon of maple syrup, tasty on just about everything, and some good ol Canadian bacon.
I think I'll paint some pretty maple leaves in fall colours, swirling around a big fluffy snow drift, would look pretty on bobby me thinks.
What else...hmmm...oh yea, can I bring my little dog for the ride? she loves exploring, a little spaniel with a good nose will help us sniff out all kinds of critters, and she'll lay nice and quiet and keep DJM company.....

Crossville, TN

This is going to be a crazy journey...I forgot to post the picture of my painting!!

OHHHH....what;'s the doggies name...maybe I'll bring my Tessa to keep yours company....although Tessa will beg all your food. LOL

Well, I'm glad to see we're going to be so spiffy looking.
I'm bringing Angus Murphy, my Aussie Shepherd, so I'm
hoping he finally gets to see some real sheep. I keep showing
him pictures but he just isn't interested.

My uncle built houses and had aborigine workers sometimes,
and he said they sleep with their dogs and when it's really cold
it's a 5-dog night. Do you think Angus will be enough to keep me
warm? After all, you're going into autumn there.

I'm bringing a few bottles of Borosa Valley wines, if that's OK.
Heck, what am I talking about - I can buy them on the way, I'm sure.
Question: Just how fashionable do we need to be? I mean, are we
likely to run into any blokes? Should I get a perm before we set out?
Found my best fancy sunglasses from the 1960s, in hot pink, so I'm
prepared for any eventuality.

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

Blokes, didn't even think of them!!! Shhh, my husband might hear! Really truely I'm on board for other types of scenery, guess I'll leave the curlers at home. Mahnot we're sure to find ya a looker!

Thinking I'll make sure to add some benidryl for the journey, get allergies sometimes and helps with the sleep too...'specially if thar are any dog calls of the wild kind to keep me frightened. And with all the wonderful beverages on board...think I can smuggle my husbands best bottle out...a little asprin might be due.

Thornton, IL

Hey ladies, do all the Aussie men look like Curtis Stone? If so, what husband?? and can I play too? LOL Seriously, my husband teases me whenever I watch Take Home Chef, he says "there's your boyfriend" hardy har har!

Do those puffed up lizards ever spook the horses? Our horses get spooked here by a covey of quail flying up or just the smell of a cougar. Hang on for dear life!

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

After much toil (snicker, snicker) I present my "painting" for bobby.

Crossville, TN

Welcome to our new travelers ...*sliding over to make room*...we'll have a lovely trip...JO

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

well, well, you all have been busy!! look at that art work!! bobby looks awesome!
now there has been some slanderous comments about my driving ability.... in my defense, bobby has a mind of his own! well, there was that barn that time, and i did dig a few trenches in someones prize garden... and.... oh well, just hang on....

now all aboard who''s coming aboard! now dont go sittin on DJM any of you.... she is gunna be throwin that ol boomerang and cathing us some roo!

Now who mentioned 'blokes'? thats some good aussie slang right there! yeah we breed em rugged and we breed em cute! they got their shirts with the sleeves ripped out and shorts which we call 'stubbies' their working shorts made of tough stuff on and they are lookin good. they like fast cars, fast horses and nice gals. Aussies cute? Just look at Hugh Jackamn! mmmm

Anyhoo.... any other home bakin to come along? we will be leavin by morning before the heat. in the meantime, get oyur tents up and your sleepin gear on. RR, would you mind building a fire? Here is your spot DJ, just wait till those stars come out! man, there is nothing like it! the sheep skin rugs are down for you and your in charge of the smores... have to watch RR... she loves them!

Merigold, you get the billy and boil it for some tea and Bynd you can grab some flour and water and i will show you how to make damper!

Rustle up some grub, you say.......OK.....let's just see what's
in my rucksack......hmmm.....some sardines in mustard sauce,
some baked beans, hearty pumpernickel bread, green tea,
beef jerkey, and leftover Christmas candies for dessert.
(am I still on the grub squad, LOL ? ) Oh, yeah, I forgot about the
Shiraz. That's for medicinal purposes only, you know. :o)

You say DJM is coming along? Great ! I hear she's in charge of
planning our route - hope she knows how to get us there all in one
piece ! DJM, take us via the scenic route, will ya? Is there a scenic
route in the desert? Well, I'm gonna sit on her boomerang 'cause
I couldn't bear to hurt a roo - there might be a joey in the pouch !!!
You know how we all are about babies - they're sooooo cute.

How are we all gonna fit in Bobby? I'm too old to ride on the bumper !
Hey, wait a minute, I just thought of something. I remember reading
one time about how there are camels in the desert in Australia, and
that camel races are very popular there - or is that just communist
propoganda, LOL. Anyways, if there are still some on the loose from
when they were first brought in, maybe DJM could use her boomerang
and trip one or two for us, in case we can't all fit in Bobby. I don't know
about the rest of you, but I come nicely padded. :o) I'm starting to feel
sorry here for poor Bobby, and who knows - a camel ride across the
desert might not be bad. Of course, if anyone gets seasick, then that's
out, but we could use them to pack our gear and that would free up
space in Bobby. Whatcha think?

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Oh, yeah, somebody better bring a GPS system and
a cell phone or two. Who's got a good camera? I'm sure
you'll all want lots of pictures of me having a good time, I hope.

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

Hey, RR save some of them smores for me gal! I'll be busy over yonder with the billy making some hot boiling water for tea (speak of hot that Hugh Jackamn!, that Curtie boy ain't bad either prairiegirl).

Trying to decide where to sit for this ride, with DJM at the charge of the boomerang I wonder if close by, or far far aaway is best. Do ya got a good grip on that thing? Perhaps DD Momcat will take that spot beside you (keep that boomerang in the family an all).

Crossville, TN

Room? Didn't ya'll see the nice trailer that Bobby pulls....we have it all decked out as a traveling home....well....it could use a little more space....but we get by.

OK....I love my cuppa....goes good with "Smores...here...try this one hot off the fire. Watch it Three...it will burn your fingers.....Bynd...step up and get yours too. I eat all the left over ones.

Jo

Thornton, IL

Rustle up some grub? U must be jokin' man, that's why I was watching the cooking show! I'll just take my folding chair, the one with the plaid webbing, up on the roof of the Bobby, gotta catch some rays dontcha know, I'll be the lookout for blokes and whatall?? Don't know, but it will be an adventure, so I'll be wearing my shades and my sun hat. I can bake, so I did pack us some nice pound cake, and yummy carrot cake, and here's a few cans of good ole vegemite, do Aussies eat this stuff??

Crossville, TN

Prariegirl....I love pound cake...and carrot cake ....and uh...vegemite?? nope...we had some of that on the last adventure....LOL

How about a cold porter? Jo

North Augusta, ON

mmmmmmmmmmm.....I love smores.......I brought along my trusty old cast iron griddle, best way to make pancakes(flapjacks?) over an open fire...you ain't tasted nuthin like flapjacks on an open fire, with real maple syrup and a big side of canadian bacon....that should fill us all up nice.
Somebody mentioned Aussie blokes? Good thing I told Hubby he had to stay home.....lol
