Hi,

Found a great site for you that lists plants for a gothic garden.

http://www.widdershins.org/vol2iss8/o9704.htm

It's under the heading of Flowers, about a third of the way down the page.

I guess it depends on your gothic theme.

1. There are all poisonous plants theme (not recommended if you have small children or pets)
foxglove
datura - moonflower
castor bean (extremely poisonous)
monkshood

Or you could go with names of plants like ones with "black" or "night" in the title etc. (My general theme in my garden is fairies so I picked flowers that have the name fairy in them).

Or black (near black flowers). The problem is that there are so few and they all bloom at different times. I once saw an all black bed and have to say it was boring.
I really like the black pansies.

You could go with a moon garden - may not be really "gothic"
Plants the only open at night
only release their fragrance at night
white and silver (to reflect the moonlight)
I have shasta daisies, 4 o'clocks, lambs ears, catmint in mine.

Or if you intend for just odd plants, look for ones with interesting barks, flowers leaves, or look funny.

or a garden of plants that would have been planted in the middle ages. Here's a good link with plant lists
http://www.gallowglass.org/jadwiga/herbs/medievalgardens.htm

or a mixture of those themes.

What do you consider to be a gothic garden?
