How do I keep ants and (mostly) rodents off of my grapevines before harvest?
Thanks in advance,
Bruce
Backyard grapes
No advice, just saying the pic is the funkiest looking grape I ever saw. ;-)
For the ants you could try something like Tanglefoot, make sure you put it on any trellises, etc as well as on the trunk of the vine. For rodents, I wonder if you used the same kind of netting that you can get to keep birds out if that would keep the rodents out too?
nice picture!
Wups, sorry about the self-portrait. Didn't understand the pic request. When I get grapes, I'll show you what they look like. ;-)
Thanks for the advice. Never heard of Tanglefoot but will try it (and all other suggestions).
Thanks again, all!
Ants won't cross vegetable oil either...a trick that hummingbird folks use to keep them out of their feeders is to wrap a pipe cleaner soaked in vegetable oil around the post or chain. Should work around a grapevine too...just remember to keep it moist..(fill a dish soap bottle with oil and squirt it on every couple of days) Rodents I can't help with....got a cat???
I LOVE the vegetable oil idea. I can easily attach pipecleaners to the trunks and the legs of the trellis.
Now if I can only figure out how to delete my picture!
Thanks!
Your picture is just fine. Larissa was just teasing you. :-)
