plants for a pool enclosure?

I have 3 in ground planters within a pool enclosure. What types of plants can I plant in there that won't overgrow the enclosure or drop in the pool? What types of palms won't grow too tall? (2) of the planters are 8'x6' and (1) is only 1.5'x6'. I want a lush, green tropical feel... thanks.
