I am glad, the envies are arriving :o)

Suzy I showed that one and a few others to dh, the one you got, he said the wind would carry it away here :( I did end up with one of those Mini GH's off of ebay last night. :o) finally!

It is what I had been looking for, for my front deck. It is the perfect size for what I need right now. But I am still looking into one for the back yard. I am checking into getting some windows from the hospital here, they are doing some major construction, so hopefully they will give me some of the ones they are getting rid of... Then dh can build me one :o) or help me with building one.

The shed he has, was sitting up on block, its a 10 x 12 and he built a leanto on one side. The wind shifted it. Now he has it braced and ancored down good...

We get some strong winds here... But its great that you finally got one :o) I am hoping I get the Mini one with in the week... heres a pic of the one I won :o)

lol Sue, love the picture :o) One of these days I would love to visit Ireland. I use to have a tape by the Irish Rovers (Ibelieve thats what they were called lol) Loved to hear those guys sing...
When I was a youngun I use to ask my dad if we could go there, and he would say you never know, maybe some day... But we never did... But one never knows, may still end up visiting there one of these days :o)

Oh yeah the Trifolium dubium you sent, when is the best time to sow this?

Connie

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Connie,

Yes, I know about the blowing over....and I *am* worried about it, but I didn't have a choice. I needed a certain size and I wanted the three shelves per side. I looked at the ones that are more the kind you showed, but my house is planted to the foundation and there is no place to put one. Well, I could have *one* against the chimney, but I'd need 3.

Here is what I am doing to help weigh it down: There are little anchor stakes that come with it -- mabe 4 per side? Then the flaps at the bottom are about 4 inches, so I am putting bricks all along the edges. Up at the shoulder there are sewn in loops and they sent some white -- like it will stay white! -- cord. I assume you are supposed to use the cord and the sewn in loop somehow, but I'm not sure...maybe like a guy wire?

I'm also hoping that filling the 6 shelves will weigh it down.

The best news is we hardly have any wind here. It's a neighborhood full of trees 3 and 4 stories high and they really cut down on the wind. Sometimes the air is too still, like in the summer.

Last night it got down to 28 with 20 mph winds and right now it's 41 and the greenhouse is toasty warm today. I wish I had oriented toor facing north, but in my excitement I forgot :))

Suzy

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

I've got those little mini gh's and I drive a pole down by one of the sides, under the cover, and tie it to the gh then put the cover on and take a piece of strong string and tie all the way around the gh and cover on the outside, I have awful winds here all of the time and it works for me.

I've been checking big lots out for more and none guess ours isn't going to carry them anymore, I don't know what I'm going to do, I don't have a big gh, guess I'm going to have to figure out something for next year, those little covers don't last long either the zipper breaks or the weather makes the covers brittle and they get holes in them.

Do they have more of those on ebay Connie, can you send me a link?

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

You can buy tie downs or make your own from strong rope and a dog tie out spiral thing to attach it to.

It's here!!!! Wow O Wow!! I just love St. Patrick's Day and since DS is getting married tomorrow it will always be extra special.
Thank you all for the really cute ideas.

It is fantastic! DD and DGD are just about here from Indiana. They left at 3am and are going to be worn out. Tomorrow is DS's big day (wedding) so the rehearsal is at 6pm and then the rehearsal dinner.

It is gonna be a whirlwind visit for DD and DGD as they are leaving early Sunday morning for the return trip.

Thanks again, this was so much fun!

Now, thanks to me opening the envelope I’m way behind today lol Thanks to all of you for the great seeds and thank you Connie for hosting this wonderful trade! So many seeds and so little space!

Well, I just slogged through our lovely spring snowstorm to the mail box but no packet yet. sigh Our mail is so slow.

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

Sorry Hart, I really hate when you are anticipating something and then are let down by the mail service. No snow here except a sprinkling one time that closed all schools. It doesn't take much to close schools in the south.

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Got my package today. You girls are so creative. What fun!

Connie
The official way to sow Trifolium is late in the year...October(ish) at around 40*F
This ensures that you have a bunch of it to "drown" in March

However - providing it is kept cool and moist it will germinate...slowly, but will bulk up fairly quickly
so you could try it in the fridge
If this doesn't work - contact me again in October...lets make sure you have a bunch for next year!

Sue

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

I want to thank all of you for such a nice package to come home to on a rainy day! And thank you Connie for hosting and motivating! All of the packages were so cute!

Donna

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

I did have a question about one of the varieties I received though...Could someone tell me what "Doll's Eyes" are? I don't think I've heard of them or if I have, not by that name:LOL:

Thanks!
Donna

Alexandria, VA(Zone 7a)

Cheers to all! My nice Green Goodies arrived today too! Yes, I had to open them. I just could not wait one more day either.

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Hey Donna (dmac085)

I'm sorry but I got lazy when labeling. Doll's eyes are:

White Baneberry, White Cohosh, White Doll's Eyes
Actaea pachypoda

Here's a link:

Let me know if you got any more of my weird stuff,

Brenda

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

I have a question too about one I received from lizren. What is Tabibua (red/orange/yellow). The only similar spelling I found is a tree.

Thanks,
Brenda

Top of the Morning, HAPPY ST PATTY"S DAY :o)

We woke up to snow on the ground :(
Sorry I wasn't around yesterday, but I had to get this house cleaned. DH asked if we were having company rofl.. Also got my laundry done to... Now I need to clean my PC desk off, but everytime I sit down here, well I end up here instead or playing solitaire lol...

I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Sue thanks for the info and will do :o)

Connie

Hanson, KY(Zone 6a)

My envelope arrived yesterday and all I can say is WOW......Thanks everyone!
You all are so creative...I just love the cute little packages. They are all so cute...I really hate to open them and mess them the little packages up.....in order to use the seeds!
All the different varieties of seeds were great as well.

I haven't had a chance to be on the puter much, since I started my new job in the lawn and garden dept. of my Lowe's store...but will catch up as soon as I have a off day. My job is wonderful....I can't believe I am actually getting paid to do what I love to do anyway!

Thanks Connie for hosting this more than fun... St. Patty's Day swap! You made everything go so smoothly.

Jane

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I got some brown seeds labeled daylily? and I knew they were not daylily seeds so I did a little searching.
Here is what I found on them if anyone needs info on how to sow theirs.
http://www.nzlilies.org.nz/cultivation/cultivation.html
Edited to add : it takes about three years to mature to bloom size but they are really worth the effort.

Windy, Are those seeds wedge-shaped or flat?

I was President of the Indiana Lily Soc for 4 years and they don't look like any Lilium seeds I've ever seen. Lily seeds are thin & flat, completely flat, and viable seeds have that line on the inside like the website you sent the link to. It might be raised a little, but they are definitely not wedge shaped.

Not sure what you have, but they aren't lily seeds (genus Lilium)

Hey Brenda, sorry about the bad spelling on the Tabebuia seeds. They are a tree, though small, and perhaps a little too tropical for you?

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

Thank you Brenda! I can't use them but I have a friend who has a huge lot with some nice wooded areas and a stream that I'm sure these would be great for. Right now it's just a bunch of scrubby North Carolina pines, I'm sure you've seen them, green at the top 1/3'd and dried out and bare the rest of the way down:LOL: Thanks for the link, it is really pretty and the berries really do look like little doll eyes=)

Donna

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Windy I am not sure, but I think those came from me, cause I have some just like them and Jane there wedged, all it said on them was Day Lily seeds ?... So I thank you wendy for finding the info on those :o)

I have been a busy little bee today I sowed a 72 cell pk and a 40 cell pk along with one pot. and I am still not done... Just taking a break... whew it's alot of work, I found a GH at gardeners.com that I want, it would be perfect for me. (12x16 for 499.00 and free shipping with the code I have) You have to buy the lumber for it. But hey, thats dh's area lol... they also have a 12x12 for 459.00... but for 40 more, you know :o) dh would also have to buy the lumber to make the shelves I want :o)

Gonna talk to him when he gets back home. The youth are make these small go carts to race next Saturday, so the guys have the youth today :o) oh happy day lol

Hope you all are having a great day,

Diane (wantabegardener) Thx soooo much for the card, loved it :o)

Ok, about the seeds, it is hard to determine if something is three dimentional on just scanned seeds. I looked for further seeds on the seed site and then went to the plantfiles with the name.
Now I am going to post this on the identification forum also, but found this
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/9178/
They are pretty hard and not papery or flat as Donna said, so not the lilium seeds. ARGH! Yellow flag iris?
what do you think after looking at the link here, Connie. I guess if I planted them I would find out eventually. LOL
Anyway, I am going to the ID forum and see if anyone there knows.

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Yep Yellow Flag Iris it is :o)

There identical... Good going Windy ;-}

Connie

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

It sounds as if you have to keep them really moist and then grow them in a boggy environment. Hmmm...
Now I need to put in a water feature for sure. LOL

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Connie, I received my package today, yea what talented people! Cute as a button! Love all of them and especially those that came with instructions! I needed that for sure. I'm just playing with my seeds tonight, while watching leprechun on the sci-fi channel. I live an exciting Saturday night.

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Could possibly be japanese iris - anybody know who sent them? Did they have a label? I did have some japanese iris but I don't think I sent any this time. I did have yellow flag iris but it would have said so. I bought them as japanese iris from a lady here in georgia through the market bulletin but they are not japanese iris - but yellow flag iris.

Brenda

Coaling, AL(Zone 7b)

Well, I spent most of my afternoon potting up seeds. What a blast. I got about 50 things in flats, plastic cups, whatever I could find today... thanks everyone for enabling! E

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Our mail has been so slow lately. I am still waiting!

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

The lable just said Daylily with a question mark behind it, so the sender was not sure either. That is why I looked for it instead of asking the sender. I know I have a few mystery seeds sometimes and it is always interesting to plant them and see what surprises are inside. lol
I usually can identify seeds by the look, but these are something I had never grown before.
I used that seed site where the person has images and sorts them by size. That is a really great site I use many times as it gives germination and growing instructions. It should really be made into a book, as it is very useful.
It is referenced in a lot of different forums here also. This is the link of images of seeds sorted by size.

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

I forgot to mention, I enclosed a sheet of paper in each envelope, those are instructions to the seeds that 9kittymom sent. I hope you all kept them and didn't throw them out wondering what it was for... The brain gets a little slow sometimes, rofl

Well I sowed tomato seeds and some DL seeds yesterday and a few others, still have lots and lots to do. I hope I can get them all done...

I have a lot of info I have to look up also, so if I am not around, you will know what I am doing lol...

Have a great day,

Connie

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello to everyone and THANK YOU so much for the wonderful seeds! I absolutely LOVED my goodies. All of you are so creative, I love the different styles and designs. Connie, thanks for hosting a great swap. It was super smooth and so timely! I love the open communication you have with your swappers - - - seems to bring out the best in everyone! Keep up the good work! We all love it.
Belinda :-)

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Package arrived today! What a treat! I think I love the little gifts and packet decorations more than the seeds. Well, maybe not but it's close call. LOL Katrun, the dog and cat stationary is perfect here in animal central. Gosh, I wish I could personally thank each of you. I don't know where you all found all these cute green, St. Pats things and everything is so pretty and creative.

Sue, I can't tell you what I kick I got out of the actual picture of an actual St. Patrick and the snakes site with actual dogs from someone I actually know in real honest to goodness actual Ireland. LOL Gorgeous, gorgeous dogs, too.

Connie, I had one packet of Straight 8 cucumber seeds marked from Lizren to Nancy. It will probably be next Monday before I can get to the post office, but I'll send those out to you as soon as I can, Nancy.

Connie, thank you so much for your usual fantastic job with a terrific swap. Kudos, kiddo!

Ballintleva, Ireland

Hi everyone
I'm five hours behind you guys - It's 9am and I'm sat waiting for the postman... sometimes mail from USA to Ireland gets here in 2 days...sometimes 2 weeks - so I think I'll be doing this each morning this week!

Hart
Thanks for the comments...you can see the dogs as they were and as they are now on the website (still a work in progress and the garden pics are rubbish...but check out the dog page) - www.ballintleva.com
Orla and Stanley were rescued from tinkers....Orla had just given birth to 7 pups by the side of the road and was literally starving to death!....Stanley was such a georgeous puppy...and now he is a huge"lurcher"
We originally was looking for one puppy - but its worked out really well - they are truly the best of mates - couldn't possible seperate them!

Hope you all had a wonderful St Patricks day and remembered that you have to wear green all day....and that you all are "fully recovered" by now!
Sue x

That was certainly quicker than expected....did you all very carfully..."rip" yours open.....isn't this what Christmas must feel like to a child!

Love all the packages...so much care and time spent - will get to the seeds later when I get home!
