Spring Fever

Perris, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi! Everybody!! I haven't heard much about starting seeds indoors so far this winter (other than wintersowing). My wife and I started our indoor plants yesterday. We planted 60 Jiffy peat moss plugs in a Jiffy Dome Seed Starter. We planted ten different kinds of plants...all of them attracting bees or butterflies. The three varieties that we are really counting on are Hyssop, Delphiniums and Canary Yellow Zinnias. If most of the other varieties come up, we will only need one or two of each kind (except for the three mentioned). I guess we will try to trade the others with other gardeners online if they will fit into a 2" pot. Most of our seeds we will plant directly to the soil in a couple of weeks. In two weeks, it is our SPRING. The first week of March is our average last frost. I can hardly wait.

Take care,

Chuck

Fine, make the rest of us jealous... :)...our last frost date here in the foothills is Mother's Day.

Here's my spring fever solution. Tomatoes, leeks, celery, flowers, etc.
It's all in my dining room, this year!

Dear Dun1kirk,

That is a beautiful plate. It would definitely take care of my Spring Fever solution also. Sorry, phuggins! I get carried away. All six of the zinnias are up. I hope they can wait a little while to transplant.

That really is a beautiful plate.

Thanks for sharing it with us,

Chuck

Dear dun1kirk,

I am so glad you posted the last photo. With the plate, I couldn't quite get where the tomatoes fit in...LOL. The indoor seed starter would take care of my Spring Fever also. Good for you!!

This is the first year that we have tried starting plants indoors. We are experimenting with the seeds we have received in trades.

Thanks again for sharing,

Chuck

I've been working out in the yard a bit lately, with high hopes of Spring being near, but the temperature is forecast to possibly go down into the 20's. Now that is NOT Spring!!! I have a dozen bare root roses (in their cardboard boxes) that I maybe should put in the garage for the night.

Love the seed starting setup - keep us posted on the growth! (I thought the plate was gorgeous, but wasn't sure it would do the trick for me - thanks for posting the right one!!!)

Oh OK....I was wondering what the plate (which is beautiful) had to do with tomatoes and celery, but figured maybe I just missed something. :) Yesterday I cleaned up my seed starting area downstairs and felt better. I didn't actually plant anything, but just sweeping the floor and organizing my stuff was beneficial. Dun1kirk I like your seed starting setup, I was checking it out for ideas. :) (I hope that is OK. :) )

It could be worse. Our last frost date is May 31st. Spring comes in here usually in a blizzard. It is snowing right now. You guys go on with your plants, I will get out the snowshoes and dream of warmer times. LOL

Yes, all, do check it out. I plan to put a piece of plastic over the top to try to create more of a greenhouse. A also have yellow sticky tapes on 2 of the shelves as I always seem to get little flying somethings emerging. I'll post again when things germinate.
Anyone want the plate? Must clean out the basement!
