Business cards

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Dave,

I was wondering if it would be okay to print business cards with the url and maybe the slogan and the logo. I get asked about dave's garden all the time and people even ask me for a business card so that is why I'm asking. The other day I was at Home Depot and one of the plant vendors asked me for a business card because she wanted to look us up when she got home. Is it possible for me to make a few cards telling about DG and who we are so that we can hand them out to people that might be potential subscribers?

Jesse

Jesse, yes, that's perfectly fine. Go to the homepage and click on "Extras" in the menu bar and you will see the DG logo in several formats. Have fun with it!

Thanks Dave.

Great Idea Jesse .... Maybe some could be passed out to the plant "caretakers" at Home Depot and Lowes ... if they knew about DG and would log on they would learn how to treat all those plants in their care. I was just at Lowes again yesterday .... all those beautiful Exotic Angel plants floating in water! Great way to get the word out about DG also! When I've been mailing packages at the Post Office and people hear me telling the clerk about DG (when they ask the question if pkg contains anything perishable, fragile etc) and I tell the clerk it plants, that I belong to this really neat on-line Garden Club ... we get into discussions and I tell everyone to log on, check it out, that it's a wonderful site with great people and great information and well worth the subscription! People seem very interested, so hopefully will join up!

Same goes for me. I tell everyone I meet about DG. And most of them are really interested and say they will log on when they get home. But I think most of them probably forget the name by the time they get home. I probably would. That is why I want to make the business cards so they will have something to help them remember.

Great idea, I tell people also, and would love to hand them something to keep until they have time to take a look.

Would it be possible to add a template for business cards like the printable seed packets? Being pretty much of a dummy where computers are concerened it would be very helpful to me...and I'm sure others as well. Putting in a blank sheet of business cards and mashing PRINT I can handle. LOL

I think Ginger's idea is great, hopefully one of these days it will happen.I like to tell people about Dave's too.

I have been sort of playing around today at designing business cards. And I think I have come up with at least one good one and a couple others that might be of interest. I have included my DG name and my email address so that people can contact me or know who I am online so that they will not feel so alone upon arrival at DG. I know the first few times I visited DG I was really scared so that is why I include my DG name on the card. And depending on what the people want to know about DG will help me decide on which card to give them, that is if I print more than one kind. The first one that I am listing is my favorite, but the other two have more details. So give my your opinions about them. I want to hand them out to as many people that I really think are interested so that we will have even more people here at DG.

Oh, in case anyone is interested, the program that I used to make these cards is called Microsoft Office Publisher 2003. It is a part of the Microsoft Office. I just went into MO Publisher, pulled up a blank document, there it has all kinds of things. Then I clicked on blank business card and started putting it all together. If anyone is interested, I can give more details.

Wow! what a wonderful job you have done!! I think they are all perfect, I hope we can come up with something that good.

Dave, I vote for a template to do these business cards, just think about the new subscribers. My friends get tired of hearing me tell them about Dave's Garden, if you give us a template, then they can read about Dave's Garden.

(Zone 1)

Jesse: Great Job! Love those cards!

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks for all of the compliments. When I made one of these cards and went to print them, 8 of them printed all spaced out nice and neat and so I guess they already know how to make themselves aligned so that they will print on the perforated paper that you buy to print them on. I think I might go to the all night Walmart tonight and see if they have special paper there. This is all so exciting.

Here is my effort, I had some Avery business card paper #8371 and they printed great, although this looks distorted. You can create the same thing on plain card stock using the label tool in Microsoft, then cut if you didn't want to invest in the perforated cards. Also I plan to print my ID and email addy on the back for my personal use.
edited to correct late night typing!

Great job Sheila, you guys are great.
Josephine.

These are wonderful!

If you email me the template I can added it to the Extras menu...

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

I am tapping my fingers waiting for that template. tap, tap, tap...

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't know how to send a template. I only know what I made and how I made it. But as for sending a template, I'm totally in the dark. I do not mind sharing at all, I just don't know how. I can send the .pub file that I made before I exported it to a .jpg image. Is that what you need?

Jesse

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I have a word.doc (business card stock format) that I am trying to get to Dave, but I can't copy the file in a dmail or on the contact us forum. Waiting to get an email I can send to.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I used Microsoft Office Publisher which I think most everyone has. It comes with Microsoft Office. If I have an address I will send the 3 different ones I did to Dave also. I went to Walmart tonight and bought some of the perforated card stock so that I can print some of them for my next trip to Home Depot. I always wind up talking about DG to people in HD. I even talk to the vendors too. I hope that same lady will be back again so I can give her a card.

Yes, Jesse, that is the one that if someone has word, they should be able to access.
For those of you who want to try your own, pull up a Word document, click the Tools tab, and select Letters /Mailings, then click Envelopes/Labels. On the Label tab, go to options, and click in the scroll box to #8371.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

It is the same with Microsoft Office Publisher. It makes all kinds of documents. I think that if I send it to someone as a .pub file then they can edit it and put their name in it and take out mine. I should try that, emailing it to myself and then opening it to see if I can edit it. If so, then so can anyone else. Let me give that a try to see how that works.

I would be very interested in doing this myself. Has anything been done about sending Dave a template yet?

Sheila, I really like your card, it says it all. I did what you said above about using the label area of M. word and I was so surprised to see all the useful stuff in that area....didn't even know that was there. How did you copy the DG logo in to that space? I tried all of them and nothing worked. :-)
Can you tell, I'm not pc literate? lol

My gardens are going to be shown on our local Garden Tour this May and I would love to have cards to give out during that time. I was also at one of our local nurseries last week and was telling the owner about DG. They said they had heard of it, but hadn't checked it out yet. I had to get a scrape piece of paper out of my purse to write down the URL of DG for them.

Dave, can this be accomplised....please?

Donna

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Let me see if I can get Dave to respond to a dmail. I had sorta dropped the ball on this after I got mine printed. LOL!!

(Zone 1)

It would be great if the business cards could be posted on here so we could all just print them out as needed!

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Problem is if you want ones that you can edit and put in your own info, it'll have to be in Microsoft word or some format like that rather than a picture file, and the only thing you can post on forums is picture files. So Dave would have to put it with the "extras" or something so that people can download them.

(Zone 1)

I wouldn't want any of my information on the card! I would just like a card to promote DG .... to be able to get the word out, possibly generate interest in other folks to come join our little "Garden Party"!!

Lin

If someone emails them to me (dave@davesgarden.com) I will post them in Extras.

dave

(Zone 1)

Oh .... Please, Please ... someone, Sheila_FW, or Plantcrazii (it was originally your idea after all :) ..... Please e mail them to Dave so we can all have access to them!

Thanks Dave! It sure would be great to have them in Extra's to print out whenever we wanted to!

Purdy please, with sugar on top!!

Thanks Dave for wanting to do this for us. :-)

Just got home from work and saw the note from Dave!!!
You have mail, and I hope it works as a template!!! Thanks!

(Zone 1)

Oh ... I'm gonna be watching "Extra's" for these cards!

Thanks so much Sheila_FW! And DAVE!

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

The ones that I did were made with Microsoft Office Publisher which most people should have if they have Microsoft Office.

Jesse

Sheila_FW, I got your Word file, but when I opened it (using my office program) I just got a blank page that said:

"This page uses frames, but your browser doesn't support them."

Very strange!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Send your's to the address Dave gave plantcrazii, so he can put them on as a template also. I figure it will be during the day tomorrow before he responds, since he is able to take some time off now days. ;-)
Oops, posted at the same time, sorry and surprised you are up late Dave. Let me try again with a different file.

I just emailed a couple of my cards to Dave. Hopefully they will be in a format that others can use.
