My first lily seedlings!

We won't make it this year. Steins has some for $30

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Google it and see if you can get it cheaper off the internet...

$30 is for the box not the spray bottle.

I might try the sprinkle on the ground stuff... :) I've put out my Deer Fortress and things seem to be doing just fine... Husband has taken out several rabbits, sooo.. I still might try the sprinkle on the ground version..

What does he use to take them out? :*)

Will these baby bulbs regrow leaves? They were so healthy but some of them I only had 3 to 5 from a cross :*(

Hard to tell if they will come back this year, but very immature plants don't always follow normal cycles, so I'd say there is a good chance. If the silly wabbit just ate the leaves and not a stem (because there was no stem), you can almost be sure they will regrow.

Yet another good (and perfectly valid) use of a ladder.

The Amazing Pard strikes again!

I have lots of lily seedlings popping up, yesterday L majoense made a show of 3 (sowed 12), nearly 3 months from sowing.

Some that have germinated in the garage are losing their leaves as if they have been nibbled off at the base, L pardalinum I had a few and they have nearly all de-leaved. I wonder if those little white grubby sciarid flies are doing it, the leaves haven't yellowed.

In the greenhouse things are popping, I took these pics 10 days ago.

L regale (thanks Lefty!)

Actually Wallaby, you need to thank Jeff. They came from him.

Two of your majoense seeds have come up so far, too. Also bolanderi, columbianum, columbianum integrated with kellogii, kellogii, formosanum var. pricei, mackliniae, sargentiae, sp. ex Chen Yi, x marhan and all of the ones that Pard sent me. Many more to come yet, some are hypogeal in bags and I know they have germinated. Most hypogeals I did directly in pots of soil.

Now that I have actually done the baggie thing, I know it's not for me. It's fun and all, but very tedious when it comes to separating the seedlings that are sending up leaves. I can't imagine that I am not setting them back in growth. Perhaps it's fine for more vigorous hybrids, but for species, I won't be doing it again.

Those seedlings are looking good!

I was so excited when I thought a L.canadense had germinated, only to see the next day whatever had germinated was a dicot (some weed that blew in). The seed still looks perfectly fine when I uncover to take a peek, so still hoping.

I thought the regale were Jeffs, but you sent them Lefty and I don't think Jeff is watching. Thanks Jeff!

I have that problem with weeds too Neal, but I 'think' I'm learning the difference! Your henryii are doing well, all still going and forming small bulbs.

My L kelloggii is doing hte same as pardalinum, I had 6 and was down to 2, the leaves don't lok waterlogged just like they ahve been snipped off around compost level. I moved them to the greenhouse and one more has gone, can't find anyting in the compost.

L parvum var. hallidayi on 27th April, they are still all there,

Your snipped seedling reminded me of a mystery creature that is driving me nuts here at the new place. Whatever it is, and there may be more than one culprit, snips leaves, growth tips, and blooms randomly. One day a hellebore had 2 of its new leaves laying beside the plant like they had been snipped with scissors. The next, a zinnia bloom, a cosmo stem, and on and on. Looks like what a cut worm does, only higher up on the plants. But, I dare not complain too much since it has been random and has not wiped out a whole plant (yet).

Cut worms can snip plants off higher as far as I know, I had them do it to young brassica plants many years ago.

The leaves look perfectly green and healthy, I just hope there's enough bulb growth to survive and regrow, L pardalinum does make a small bulb first and in theory shouldn't even be growing. Not sure about the other one. I had a little scratch down but whatever there may be is either gone or further down, sometimes you can do more damage by scratching!
