I was doing some Winter Sowing today and did some sunflowers.
I have 2 seeds that look identical.
Is there a difference between "Skyscraper" and "Mammoth"
when i checked the plant files, I found mammoth but not skyscraper.
(I got skyscraper from Gurney's seeds)
TIA,

question on sunflower seeds
A lot of sunflower seeds can look very similar. I wouldn't let that concern me.
I'm familiar with Mammoth, but not Skyscraper too. Sometimes....(but this may not be the case) a seed company will rename something to make it more appealing...or seem different to consumers. Like I said...this may not be true of this particular variety...but it's something to be aware of.
Here's a link to the PlantFiles entry for 'Skyscraper'... http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/54673/index.html
Looking at the photo of 'Skyscraper' on Gurney's website, it looks like it has numerous flower heads. When I grew 'Mammoth' (many, many years ago) I remember them producing just one or two very large heads. I've never grown 'Skyscraper'. There probably is a slight difference in the taste of the seeds. Maybe someone can distinguish the characteristics further than I. :-)
nifty - thanks for the link -- dont know how i didnt find it with the search.
melody -- thanks for the info on the seeds.
They definitely will look similar - just like tomato seedlings tend to look alike and pity the poor gardener who tips a tray of seedlings and mixes up the labels! (Yep, it's happened to me ;o)
