Hi! I would like to grow some Baby's Breath to put as filler in flower arrangements, but when I typed it into Plant Scout, SEVERAL different kinds came up. Which kind of Baby's Breath is commonly used in flower arrangements?
Baby's Breath
I've never cut mine but at this site www.bellaonline.com/articles/art32259.asp they recommend the easy to find Covent Garden as an annual and Bristol Fairy as a perennial. There are also some beautiful pink varieties available too like Gypsy.
Veseys has both Gypsy and Covent Garden available.
I am also trying Babys Breath for the first time.
I have some seeds and plant to SW some of them and plant them by my rose bushes.
The seeds i have are annuals, but i've read they reseed themselves.
How does one go about collecting these seeds at the end of a season?
TIA,
Terese
all I know in zone 9 that i better grow them in a warmer winter than we have now....they won't grow in the summer down here....too hot...
I haven't collected seed from any but usually with those tiny flowers the seed pod will form beneath the flower. When the flowers begin to look dried up and start falling off keep a close eye out. You can secure a paper bag or old pantyhose over the stems and when the seed pods bust you'll have seed collected. That's how I collect seed from other small flowered plants. You really just have to keep an eye on the flowers dying off. Oh, and don't try to collect seeds if the plants are wet, it just gets messy and the seed may mold.
thanks... that makes sense.
