Texas Statewide Roundup-April 28, 2007, College Station

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Ann and Sylvia, it is good to have you girls back and feeling better, we have missed you.
Josephine.

Dallas, TX

Thanks Josephine... I am getting there. I am looking foreward to College Station.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

plantladyhou I'm sorry you've been sick. It'll be great to have a face to put with your name after the RU.:)

Sylvia, by the time the RU rolls around you should be doing really well. Are you doing your therapy? Keep doing those excercises so you will heal right.

Sheila, my daffodils are up too and starting to bloom. My jonquils have been blooming. And finally my daylilies are coming up. Wow. DH says how do you know they are DL and not nutgrass? Grrrrr.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

It will be so great to see those of you that I met last spring, and meet the new faces too! Silverfluter - the Aztec Gold daylily I got from you has done so well - and I got two little plantlets off of it too (can't remember what they're called at the moment!). We had a colder than usual winter here, and I don't know what all I'll have yet, but I'll have something! Glad to see maggiemoo pipe in - haven't heard from her in a long time! Grandbabies will do that to you. And Frostweed - the Speedwell is blooming and it is gorgeous. Such a beautiful blue! I'm glad that you're doing better, Sylvia. You were in such pain. Sandy - If you can get to Houston, I can get you the rest of the way.

Dallas, TX

Josephine I am not doing m y exercises as I should. I haven't exercised since the Therapist left. I am so bad, when I get my house back to myself, I will do better.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

CJ, that DL makes proliferations. I'm so proud of myself for remembering that word!:) The cardamom ginger you gave me is struggling. It might not have enough dirt in the pot. It seems to have dropped. I guess maybe some dirt escaped? I need to repot and give it another chance this spring.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

If you were to plant it outside, it would probably make it throught the winter. It would freeze back, but I'll bet it would recover...And if it didn't I would have more to give you! Would you like a nice big clump to try again?
Proliferation! That's the word! Thanks!

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Ceejay What day or days are you going? I would really like that. I will see what I can work out.

meanwhile Dmail me you plans and we can take it from there.

Thanks

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I had planted my Cardamom Ginger outside last year and figure it will bounce back this year. It did very well last year. But them I am not much of a pot gardener, most die from lack of attention.

Dallas, TX

CJ my Cardemon Ginger was in a pot, I hope its still there. It did so beautiful summer. I dont know whats in any of my pots out there unless its labled. I remember that ginger was in a square pot. gonna look for it this morning.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey, if anyone needs a new one, I'm bringing more....That one I know. And some more Guara.
I was out working in the yard today - cutting stuff back - it is so gorgeous out there. I hope I don't regret it. Then I noticed leaves overflowing the gutters and decided that was a "must do now" chore. Now I'm pooped.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

What is a guara, CJ?

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Oops. Gaura. Gaura lindheimeri 'The Bride'..

That's a wonderful plant. There are lots of varieties.

Tyler, TX(Zone 8a)

I am so sorry I am going to miss the RU and meeting Dave but our Garden Culb here in Tyler has there big sale on that day and I have to be there. I hope there will be one in the fall. Dave you do such a good job on this web site and so kind I just want to thank you and all of your staff.

Hope to see all of you in the fall.

Joan

Crosby, TX(Zone 9a)

I have never attended one of these round ups....my mom lives in Normangee which is only about an hour away, but was wondering how all of this works, do we have to bring plants to attend, can my mom come with me? I think it would be a great outing for her. Would just kind of like to know what to expect I guess.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

We're very informal... You can bring plants if you have any that you are willing/able to give away. If not, come anyway. :-) Bring munchies of some kind to share (doesn't have to be fancy! If you like it, we will, too!) and plan on wandering around the pavillion, chatting with a bunch of friendly people. You'll probably end up bringing home some plants, whether you bring any or not. :-) We get started at around 10 am, but people wander in and out at will. We technically have the pavillion all day, but last spring we were pretty much gone by 4 or 5, I think. Some people come the night before and meet for breakfast. Some stay overnight and go nursery-hopping on Sunday. You are very welcome to join in for the whole time, or just for a couple of hours, whichever works for your schedule. :-) And your Mom is VERY welcome to come, too!

Houston, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I posted anything. A lot going on... I'll be there for the round up!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Looking forward to meeting you, Jessica.

Crosby, TX(Zone 9a)

Marylyn, it sounds like it would be great. Now you say "bring munchies for everyone to share" does this mean covered dish, deserts, salad?????what kind of "munchies"? I got with my mom and she would love to come so we'll be there.....just kinda wondering on the munchies thing.

Connie

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi, Connie! I'm glad you and your mom are coming! We eat lunch at the pavillion, so bring lunchy munchies. That was much less vague, wasn't it?? LOL

Here is the food thread: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/697532/ As you can see, very few of us have decided what we are going to bring yet. I would lean towards salads or very simple and easily transportable covered dishes (although if you want to be fancy, there is a large kitchen attached to the pavillion with electricity and water. I can't remember if there were refrigerators or stoves...) However, we never turn desserts down (calories at RUs don't count!), and we graze on snacky things pretty much the whole time, so really anything is good. :-)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, there is a stove and I think a microwave to heat things up if you need to, but you probably don't want to spend your time there cooking, you will be too busy having fun talking.
In my opinion easy does it.
Josephine.

Boerne new zone 30, TX(Zone 8b)

sorry will not be there. work is sending me to dallas that weekend.

Dallas, TX

...no time to cook ... lol too busy checking out the giveaways.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Nada, I am sorry that you won't make it, I hope to see you in the Fall.
Josephine.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I am trying to figure out what to do. Renatelynn and I were going to split a hotel room, but since she can't go, I'm reviewing my situation. I am considering camping out in our van. We did that before for an RU. It's not a camper. It's just a cargo van, but the mattress from our sofa bed fits inside. The end of April should be nice weather. But does the park allow campers?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I am not sure Mary Lee....but I can check for you. You can stay with me again if my parents aren't still there then, but right now I don't know how long they plan on staying this time.

Kim

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

Just go park in Kim's driveway w/your cargo truck and mattress and even the neighbors won't know you are there....

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I think I am coming with CJ. I really want to but can talk myself out of getting the mail these days.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I think you need to get out in the world and renew DG friendships and meet new people that you've been talking to. This problem with your son has consumed you and made you feel isolated. You and I are alot alike. Sometimes depression can make you more depressed.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the offer Kim, but only if they are not there still. I don't want to take any time away from you and your family. Even if we stayed in the van, we would have to come in for the bathroom.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I spoke with them today....they still don't know how long they will stay. Unfortunately they might not know until they are already here. It depends on how long it takes to finalize everything down here prior to moving. I wish I could be more help.

Kim

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I understand how unpredictable things are when you're buying property and moving. We'll just play it by ear.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Mary Lee, we used to love to camp when our RV was not so old and gasoline, not so high. A place like this would be safer than camping in the park. http://www.marinoroadrv.com/

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Patrob, you're right, but how do I find out about one closer to the RU?

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Mary Lee, Google "campground College Station Texas." I sent you the one I did because it had restrooms and showers. Some of the others might too. Just be safe!

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Patrob.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Besides my DH and I, my friend Sheila now says she wants to go also. The more the merrier, right?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Right Linda, that is good to hear.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Wish I could join all of you for the roundup, but someone has to sell plants to the public and landscapers on weekends in the spring. How about having the roundup on a weekday?
