(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

What is a "water butt"?

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

A water Butt is a plastic barrel for collecting rain water.................

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Mark.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

We call it a rain barrel.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Hazel, glad you got in to see the plans. Yes, that is a swimming pool, but I have plans for a small pond, too. We also live on a manmade lake that we share with our neighbors. makes for a picturesque scene out the back window. here's one where I was trying to catch a great blue heron in flight.

Nice job Al!. You must be busy at it. You've been posting much less.
Nice picture Gram

Thanks Dave, well maybe. I have been trying to keep up on what's going on though.

Hey guys...saying hello from Myrtle Beach! My sister lives here and I like it very much. Especially when I left it was 17 degrees and it's in the 50's here! I heard we are getting some nasty weather come Tuesday. I should be home on Monday evening - just in time! Gee..wouldn't it be a shame if I couldn't go to work because of the bad weather???

Hey Al - I've discovered a calla seller called Pacific Callas...their prices look good and they have a good rating in the watchdog. Have you ever used them? Do you plant your callas out or start them early like your dahlias?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Hey Anita! You sounded further away.
Hope you have a nice stay. That is such a pretty area.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi Anita....you lucky dog! It's 10 degrees at the moment, so I am having an envious minute. My Aunt & Uncle live close by, so if you see a couple around 65-70 taking a brisk walk in shorts and a sweatshirt, say hi for me. LOL Hope you have a great time visiting, bring back warm weather and sunshine please!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, Anita - bring back some warm weather. Snow is predicted for Tuesday and a lot on Wednesday.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Anita - what a tease to stay there so short I bet. Dog days of winter here with the last 10 days below 17 and counting. I have not used that seller, I have bought mine locally. I have not started my callas early, they store well and there isn't a rush to get them in the ground.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Many of the summer bulbs want 70 degrees (heating mat works fine) to start them growing.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Have fun Anita! Safe home.

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Hi Laurie
Thanks for your mail. Please send me a d.mail and I can then reply to you. Mark rang me this morning and said you wanted to say hello.
Sorry folks to confuse you with my water butt !!!!! we run guttering off the greenhouse and into butt, which is green plastic with a tap on the front.
Hope you had a good flight Anita.

Home safe and sound - just in time for a winter storm. The countdown begins...4 days to salvation!

I had a nice time in Myrtle Beach. My sister has a lovely home in a very nice community. Her and her husband have two Chow's http://www.canismajor.com/dog/chowchow.html . The oldest is 11 years old and the youngest is 6 months. The puppy is amazingly shy and skiddish. I wonder about the breeder that my sister got her from. Of course, I don't ask questions about this as that would be questioning my sister's decision. Anyway, the puppy's name is Dallas - although I've renamed her several times. These have included chicken sh*t, ding dong [she seems to forget who I am by the next morning] and a few others.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Glad to know you're back and that you had a good time. A dog can be trained to be more friendly so as long as it's not a "fear biter" it can work out fine.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

no - only bites Roman when he rough-house plays. She's a mush with my sister.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Great!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

You finish up your old job on Monday?
Have things been calm?

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

My last day is this Friday. I have a 3 day weekend and start on Tuesday. She's been kissing my 'You know what'. Makes it easier for me.

So this weather was a PITA this morning. I hate when mother nature teases. Just dump the snow and get it over with! Instead, we had snow, then sleet, then rain and it was sleeting again before.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Anita, Good for you!
What is a PITA? Oh, I just figured it out. Like hemeroids?

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

yup!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Dave - you home?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Yes. I have a sore throat.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Well you picked a great day to be home. I hope it's not strep?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Me too! I don't think it is.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

good - I had strep 2 years ago and I was out for the count for 3 days!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Dave, sorry you're sick ;(

Anita, welcome home. I'm glad you're done this week.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

me too - thanks. I just told her that I want to leave after the other girl comes back from lunch. If I wasn't leaving at the end of the week, she never would have let me go home. When I said that they've changed the prediction to an ice storm and there will be more freezing rain, she said that they said it was going to be like this. It must be killing her that they will have to pay me for it as I have unused vacation time. Did you ever just want to slap someone silly?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

yes - can I choose?
