I have one of these large bamboos in my garden, i also have the golden bamboo and the balck bamboo, both of these are sending up new culms every week, but the vivax is not, nothing not one cane has even shown, it has a nice bushy and healthy canopy of leaves on its two culms which are 4'-5' tall, its been in the ground since early April, its well fed and well waterd, does anyone have this one and know if its a common thing with it, or have i not done something it likes ?.
Bamboo, phyllostachys vivax aurecaulis
AJC..I'm not sure about the vivax being in this category but some bamboos only send out new culms during a brief monthly period, then do the rest of their growing in root/runner development. It may be possible that your vivax passed over the new culm growth from being planted during it's topgrowth period and now it's in the root growing phase. Just a thought..

I have no clue Dicentra, but it sounds possible to me, thanks.
AJC,
If you ever want to send some of that new growth for postage,,,I would love to take it off your hands and spread its love.....hehehe
