I am wanting to grow anything along two fence lines close to my house (or any vine) that the cattle won't eat. The cattle are on 21/2 sides of my house......I have thought of Simplicity roses and other plants but have gotten no encouragement from my family as cattle seem to like everything.......do you have any ideas? thanks, gail
what do I have to lose trying morning glories down the fence lines one time????
I just decided after reading Trish's new post on beginner flowers that i am going to put up Hyacinth Bean vine on the fence..no money and lots of color.......let the cows eat it..........they can't keep up with the bloom

any plant on fence that cattle don't eat
My Grandad (a cattle farmer) used to say that you had to watch what you planted if the cows could get to it cuz they were dumb enough to eat everything even if most animals wouldn't.
I know this is true......................so, I can't decide if it's worth it to start 60 Hyacinth Beans....so I can find out.....thank you for confirming what everyone else tells me.............I won't put up another fence this year, but next year, I may just get some galvanized Ts, plant them in the ground and stretch wire fence about 3 feet inside..........do you think that is far enough in from the other fence. These are really BIG bulls kept in this pasture.
I got a rebuilt cattle fence charger from Tractor Supply for about $30. Bought some galvanized wire and insulated standoffs, too.
You might want to place the "hot" wire a few feet away from the main fence.
Good luck.
Now you may be the nicest person I have met!!!!!! good going!!! I am going to show my brother (who has the cattle) your email and he will understand. I know that he offered me hot wire that he already has to put around my house on pier and beam to keep the skunks out....I didn't know it would work for cattle.....he will understand your specifics...thanks so much
