I recently bought a mini greenhouse - one of those 6' x 3' x 2'ish ones. My problem is, I don't know where to put it! My backyard gets full sun (except one side) most of the day . . . until 3 or 4pm. The front yard starts getting sun about noon on.
Any ideas on where to put it, or what to do with it?
Mini Greenhouse
If you can find a location that only gets morning sun, that would be ideal. I have mine close to the house in the backyard (faces east). Therefore, once the sun gets high enough, the house starts to shade the little greenhouse. Sounds like you have about the same orientation as in my yard.
Thanks. I think the closest I can get to morning sun only is to put it up against the back wall of the house. I think the roof would start to give it shade at about 2pm. The only problem I'll have at that point is securing against the wind.
I bet you get shade a lot sooner than what you think. Of course, I have a two story house, so maybe that makes a difference. Mine stands about three feet from the actual house structure. I keep it on the sidewalk in front of the air conditioning unit.
Being in Texas, I'm guessing you'll only use it until the real heat sets in. Tender seedlings in 90 degree heat probably wouldn't fair too well.
If I may add, watch the temp in your greenhouse closely. Even when it is chilly out, it heats way too quickly inside and can damage your seedlings or plants. As I am away during the day, I watch the outdoors temp and open it up for air. There is a rare day that I leave it sealed totally.
Yes, I only keep mine closed if the temps are below 40 degrees.
