Cj do you still have any mint marigold left? That's a wonderful plant and mine have never reseeded. Are they supposed to?
Texas Statewide Roundup April 28, 2007-TRADES
Does anyone have a start of staghorn fern they could trade me? Also would love to have some red crocosmia, I have some orange I can trade.
Thanks,
Trishann
I might be able to get a staghorn fern. I got some from my neighbor last year. She has one that she said she would rather just give to me, but she can't because it was a gift from a friend and she doesn't want to hurt his feelings. She's really funny. She said it's the ugliest plant she ever saw. I'll ask her.
Silverfluter - Got you down for Mexican Mint Marigold. I'm sure they must reseed because I have more than I started with. LOL! They'll root where they touch ground too.
Kim - Spiraea and daylily added. Hope you'll like them as much as I do.
Ann - I've added the seeds to my list. Are there any other plants that you'd like? I have plenty.
CJ, they root where they touch ground? Are we talking about the same plant. Mine is just a little shrub thing not more than 1 1/2 feet tall and blooms late summer I think. I have never seen it bend over. Well maybe taller than that.
Practically anything that anyone wants to give, I will probably take. Full grown or seeds. Don't know if I can do cuttings. Haven't been what you might call successful w/those. I can be a real killer. A neighbor gave me a Brug. cutting that she stuck in a pot and the leaves are coming out on it. My other brug. has buds and I am so hoping that it decides it likes me and will bloom instead of dropping the buds. That one I bought after the nursery had already cut it back and the only reason it is looking healthy is because I had my DDH drag it in its pot in and out of the garage this winter, bless his heart. All of you are being just so kind! I really appreciate you.
Ann
Silverfluter - Yes, same plant. They come up from suckers too. Not aggressive or invasive, but definitely multiplying themselves. Smells like tarragon - and used for it too. We can't grow tarragon here while I'll bet that you can. It is so interesting how plants act so differently in different climates. It is root hardy here.
Cj, you're right about plants behaving differently in different places. I planted a mint marigold 10 years ago. Today I have 2, but that's only because I had to dig it up to move it and when I did, it broke in 2 pieces. I have never seen seedlings or suckers. But then I also have katie ruellia and bugle weed that hasn't spread. Go figure.
Looks like Tx star to me Sylvia.:)
Looks like MaryJane to me! LOL!!!
Silver - I have Katie's Ruellia that I never planted. It came up last year, and I decided to keep it - it looked good where it was. Now I have lots of Katie's Ruellia, and need to move them to better spots and give some away, too. It is so hard to believe that it can be grown without spreading. I believe you - but Jeesh! Not familiar with bugle weed. Sounds like I want to remain that way, too...
Yes, I believe it is Texas Star, you have quite a combination there Sylvia.
I hear you CeeJay ... now that you bought it to my attention. LOL
Josephine I have some other stuff too ... which I hope is my Penstemons.

Cj I think bugle weed is the same as ajuga. I planted some under an oak once and it died. So last year I planted some more in a different spot and so far it's doing fine. It's a weed for some, but I need something besides St. Augustine under my oaks so I don't mind if it spreads.
About the Katie Ruellia, I'm not sure I want more. I like it, but I don't want to tempt fate by planting more if you know what I mean.
LOL! Yes, I know what you mean. Ah - ajuga. I have it, and I love it. Yes, it has popped up here and there, but it is easy to dig up. And so pretty. I lost a bunch of it a couple of years ago to what I think was a fungus. But it seems to have settled in now. It knows where it wants to live and it will die any place else. Anyway, that's been my experience.
Well it seems that the penstemons are doing well all the way around, that is great.
Josephine, I read about a penstemen that's really hardy even here. Is it called Rocky penstemen or something?
Cj I guess you're right about ajuga because the one that died, never even bloomed was about 4 feet away from the one I have now that's doing great. It's planted right next a grape mahonia. Oh I do have another one next to a beauty bush that's not blooming. And the experiement goes on.:)
Somebody on this thread wanted some chives. Can't remember who. I need to know how many you think you might want. We dug up quite a bit. I could pot up atleast 6 1 gallon pots if you want that many - probably more than that. I can also bring atleast 6 russian sages.
I would love some russian sage and if you have a smaller chives as I am riding with CJ
I would love any salvia or sage and I am always looking for amaryllis or any bulb that will live in 9b. I love ajuga also.
I am working on my trade list.
edited for typo

AJUGA REPTANS! my second love .... I got a lot of it from my last place, lately I have been buying the chocalate chip and and the Collosal with its huge leaves, I cant find enough of. Marylee I dont know where you have been planting yours, but it loves wet shady areas ... and those deep blue/purple flowers almost glisten and it is called Bygle weed. Ceejay have you seen the new varigated ones? I not quite sure I like them as well.
Marylee you did put me down for chives?
Sandy I found the Candy strip Canna. but someone took it out the pot and bundled it up, I am going to soak it and repot hopefully it makes it.
CeeJay I will take all the Katie you can muster up. I noticed it spreads faster when its among other plants, I want to try it among my Hostas. :) Thanks
Okey dokey, Sylvia - a woman willing to take risks. :-D
Sandy - Don't worry. I won't be bringing that much back with me - I HOPE!!
Adding Lilium formosanum (Philippine or Formosa lily) to my list. http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3173387

Trishann
If anyone needs ruella - purple small (Katie) or purple tall - that's one thing that I have plenty of.
Ann
AuntAnne, I've got you down for a rosemary!
I added a few odds and ends on my list--Missouri Violet, Coralberry, Flame Acanthus and roses.
Ann I will love to have some tall .
thanks sylvia
Youve got them, Sylvia.
Ann
Sandy, you're on the list for chives and russian sage. Do you want the cannas from my pond? I think it's pretoria. The leaves are really pretty, but the flower is orange, and I don't like orange. By the way if the chives pot is too big you can just take them out and put them in a plastic bag. They'll be fine, trust me. I dug up some of these one fall and put it a pot which wound up behind the house in an out of the way spot, the pot cracked at some point, and the following spring the chives were still green and growing. I wish I had taken a picture of those things.
Sylvia I have you down for chives. The ajuga I had that died was planted under the oaks, but I didn't water it much. The ones I have now are also under the oaks, but in a different spot. One is blooming and one isn't. I hope they spread. Does the clump get bigger or does it send out sucker roots?
I would love some cannas. I like orange the least but the leaves are pretty and I like to have a little of all colors. I am just weird that way and they are all mixed up.and thanks for the russian sage and chives.
CJ is a doll for bringing me and I will hold them on my lap if need be. I have a good size lap. ;o) LOL
Thanks sylvia for red and white stripe canna.
I have some orange beauty and Richard Wallace canna's I can bring you...
Trishann
Gotcha Trishann - Dietes vegeta and Formosa lily. But you said "and some of this" and I didn't know what you were referring to....?
Patrob - Do you have any of your coleus left? If so, I would love to have one of each.
CeeJay, I have your name on coleuses 'Haines Heirloom' and 'Olympic Torch'.
Thanks, Patrob!
Looks like I'll have seedlings from my Texas Rock Rose (Pavonia lasiopetala) to offer. http://www.magnoliagardensnursery.com/productdescrip/Pavonia_Rock.html
Trishann that would be great. Thanks
Ceejay, Bring em on! (Texas Rock Rose ) lol
Thank you Dave
You got it, Sylvia!
Only two weeks and a few days! I've got to dig and pot. WIsh the cows would finish calving and give me some free time!
I know this is really far off topic, but... I just put some chicken in a pot to stew and my hand brushed against an iris I had put in a vase. The iris stuck to my arm and then landed in the pot of chicken. Is my chicken contaminated? I hope not. That was alot of chicken.
