sub-topics in US

Ligonier, PA(Zone 6a)

I really need facts and no guessing on where in US is consider the sub-tropics? I know the equator is located at zero degrees latitude and approximately 23.5. N and S of it is consider the tropics. So north of it where does the sub-tropics end? Thanks

There's no real definition for subtropical. Some would consider up to 35 degrees latitude subtropical

I did read that up to 35 degrees latitude was consider subtropical, but it is hard for me to believe that 1/2 of US is in the subtropics.

Wiki says:

The subtropics refers to the zones of the Earth immediately north and south of the tropic zone, which is bounded by the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, at latitude 23.5 ° north and south. The term 'subtropics' describes the climatic region found adjacent to the tropics, closer to either the north or south pole latitudinal.

The term can be used loosely to mean a range of latitudes between 23.5 and approximately 35 degrees. These areas typically have hot summers-- even hotter than tropical climates; the hottest temperatures on record occur during subtropical summers-- and non-tropical winters. A subtropical climate implies that the air temperature usually does not go below freezing (0°C). This is a threshold temperature for a gamut of plants, and applies to coastal California, Florida, northern India, coastal Australia, Texas, and coastal South Africa, for example. The poleward limit of such climates is higher on the west coasts of the northern continents and lower on the east coasts, because occasional Winter cold snaps reach farther south in the east. Some subtropical cities include New Delhi, Hong Kong, Athens,Curitiba, Cairo, Mexico City, Miami, Los Angeles, Houston, New Orleans, Brunswick, Georgia, Orlando, Tampa, Sydney and Brisbane. Cities such as Darwin are not subtropical, and have truly tropical climates.
