Round Ups this year
Kim - I'm not in the address exchange. Would you please d-mail me?
I'll send my $50 and let the rest of you figure out this high finance!!
What happens at a RU? I'm a newbie....Also, how many nights or is this a day-trip?
Usually a day trip if you live close... overnight otherwise.
Everyone brings stuff they propergate for the RU and/or stuff that they have too much for and trades them off. Also seeds that you have too many of.
And don't forget a small item for the door prizes, they are a lot of fun.
Also we all bring some food to share.
Please come, we would love to meet you, and I am sure you will enjoy meeting all of us.
Josephine.
I just want to get this straight -- The round up will be April 28th at the pavillion in College Station, right? Same place it was in November? I'm in! Let me know if you need me to kick in some $$ towards the rental fee.

Gymgirl, last year we went up on Friday night and stayed in a motel, but t's only about an hour and a half away from the northwest side of Houston (shorter if you drive like Debbie!), so if you decide to come on Saturday it won't be hard to get there by 10. A bunch of us met at a Golden Corral for breakfast first, which was VERY fun! And then we headed to the park. At the pavilion, everyone lays out all of the plants that they brought, trade the ones that were pre-arranged, look at all of the ones that are up for grabs, talk, laugh, talk, eat, talk, laugh, draw names for "door prizes", talk, eat, and laugh some more. It's very fun! I had to come home Saturday evening, but another group of folks stayed over until Sunday and then went to a few of the nurseries that are in the area.
Marylin, I'm putting you in charge of reminding me about that mother's day sale again this year. And yes, I got another ticket going to work last Wed in the pouring rain. Hey I was late and going to an alternative work site, the very nerve of that officer. =)
LOL
Wow, I've just discovered this thread. Thanks Kim for volunteering for this. I really hope I can come. I have been thinking we would be really busy this spring, but it looks like April won't be that bad. If I can get there, I'll certainly help pay for the pavilion. Can ya'll figure out what all the rest of us need to pay?
By the way, I hope your Mom gets to come. It would be great to me her.
Mary Lee
Hi Mary Lee...how are you? We are attempting to figure out what people can pay right now. I called about the pavilion yesterday, and will be going over hopefully today to reserve it. I decided to do this because this is very close to A&M and high school graduations, and I don't want us to lose our pavilion to a graduation party. Also, the deposit was raised this year to $150 instead of $100, so the total owed is $350. I am waiting to see what arrives, and then I will figure out what else is owed. I do have some money in reserve to cover it for the time being until other moneys come in, but that money is technically an 'emergency fund' so I don't like to use it too much. A big thank you to everyone who has offered to help out!! And I hope my mom can come too....she is always talking about how friendly people are in Texas!
:) Kim
Just wanted to let everyone know that the pavilion has been reserved for April 28, 2007 from 9:30 am to 6 pm.
:) Kim
Wow Kim, thank you for doing that, we really owe you.
Please be sure to let us know when you receive the money we have sent, and how much you still need, it looks like it is going to be a lot of trouble for you.
Josephine.
Thanks Josephine....it's no trouble. I like to help out, and working on this gives me something else to concentrate on besides lab work and class.
:) Kim
Kim, what do you think about starting a new thread for the CS RU now that you have made the reservation? The location and date in the title like the trades thread might attract more participants and would give us a place to do additional planning and discussing without cluttering up the trades thread. April will be here before we know it, and I am ready for some spring weather!
Yeah... we have our pavillion!! Thanks Kim. BTW, the DH put a check in the mail Tuesday for me.
What would we do without you Kim? Marylyn are you going to do name tags again?
If you'd like me to, I'd be happy to. :-) Should I do the same ones, or invent something new-ish? I could just steal - I mean borrow! - some more images from Josephine's site and change out the flowers.. LOL
I received envelopes from Patrob, plantladyhou, and Sheila_FW today....so far $150. Thanks again! I'll start a new thread for the roundup, but I will keep the money talk here for now until I get figured out who all sent what. I can't wait for spring too!!
:) Kim
I'll put a ck in the mail for the extra $50 on the deposit.
Kim, I can send you $l0 now and more later if you need it. Does that help.
Marylyn, you have mail. Or you will in just a minute.
Very Good, Kim.
Mary Lee.....that's fine. Or if you would like to wait until you know for sure you will be going, that is fine too. I wouldn't want you to pay for something you won't be going to. Josephine, I received your money today. Thanks so much!
Kim
Ok, I'll wait as long as you're not out any money right now from your own pocket.
Mary Lee
Have we thought about looking for another place to have the round-up? I mean here in Dallas the location of our swap is free and there used to be a swap near Trois place that was on some land also free.
Just a thought...
I love CS. The park is perfect. And then Dave can come too.
Mitch....perhaps we can keep that in mind for the next one. However, since I already paid the reservation fee for the pavilion here, we need to have it in College Station at least for this spring.
:) Kim
Smockette and ceejaytown....received your money today. Thanks so much!
Kim
I love that particular pavillion in CS too, since it is so close to the parking. It is also more centrally located for a Statewide RU. Mitch, I would love to see it here in the future too, but we wouldn't get as many people attend from the southern region though.
Sorry - Kim - the idea is a little too late coming, I am just really cheap and hate to see people pay for a place when I am sure there is a local park close to never used ready for us to use free. Next year I would be thrilled to help find one for us to be at if the group would be willing.
Mitch, this is a great area, covered pavillion, bathrooms, all the amenities...AND Dave. Don't forget Dave. You don't have to lug plants a long ways. The roads are paved. You pay for what you get. It might cost us $10 each. It's worth it. Did I mention the bathrooms?
Maybe I am just spoiled up here in the metroplex, we get that minus Dave. I forget not everywhere might have the same things there.
Anyone want a seeds/seedling spring swap up here in Dallas this spring?
I enjoyed the October RU at Veteran's Park and would certainly be interested in attending another in the Ft. Worth-Dallas area if it's not too close to the one in College Station. It takes us older folks a little while to recharge and get ready for the next trip!
I am not able to get to the April 28 RU. I would be interested in one in the metroplex area. I am new to this but would be happy to help.
How about the second or third Sunday in March? That would give us at least one month between R.Us. for those of us that want to go to both.
It would still be early enough to exchange seeds for this year, although we might not have a lot of plants ready.
I think that would be workable if there are enough people who want it.
Josephine.
Either Sunday in March is good for me. I'm excited!!
They both work for me too.
Just let me know when.
Mitch
I gues it will depend on whether there are enough people interested in having it.
So please let us know what you think.
Josephine.
I think we need to start a thread that is solely about the April 28 RU in College Station. Blue eyes, would you like to do that since you are in charge?
Ceejay, Kim did start a thread for College Station, Here is the link;
