hostas

Wilmington, NC

Received some hosta seeds, planted in 2in./ 4in high containers(plastic)
mixture of potting soil and peat moss.Instructions were to plant in 1/2in deep ( moist )depth. After planting place containers into a white trash bag or clear baggie. I chose the white trash bag and tied a not in the bag sealing it. ?????? Will they grow in a set-up like I described. Is there a better way to start plants from seeds. The bag is in a green house no larger than a 10ft. X 20ft. Temp. is maintained at appro. 50-55 degrees. Any other advice?

That sounds right to me. Now is the hard part...waiting. Let us know how they are doing.

You could winter sow them too. It works well with hosta seeds. Just google winter sowing and lots of information will come up about how to do it.

Just today I googled growing hosta from seed and found a great site, which I did not bookmark unfortunately. What you have sounds good by what I remember. You do know that they will be very variable from the parent, i hope.
I collected seed from a huge monster one with no others around , so I figure if I get any they will be probably really big, but color ,????
