I have a confession to make...

Painesville, OH(Zone 5b)

Hi! My name is Tamara and I am a gardenoholic. ;-) I'm supposed to go with DH to another couple's house for a fun night w/o the kids (we're all in our mid-thirties and have little ones and not so little ones). You'd think I'd be excited to get out of the house and actually socialize with adults, but I'm not. I want to stay home and keep working on my garden journal! Please tell me that someone else can relate! :-) Tamara

Marin, CA(Zone 9b)

Tamara, I should have been at my neighbours house for dinner 22 minutes ago, and you can see where I am!!! LOL

mrs_colla - take your new friend with you as a guest!

Tamara, I can relate. Folks at work ask me how my weekend was and I'm only happy when I can say I played in the dirt both days! You are not alone in this universe of gardening folks.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

To my (somewhat eccentric) mind 12 steps means buying (or trading for) 12 new plants!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Lol - Christi, you are in fine company, believe me!!!! I've been obsessed with gardening for years and years, but even more so since we moved to our current location four years ago. I leave my house in a mess and will stay outside the entire day and evening when weather permits. Early morning is one of my favorite times and I often skip church to just be in the gardens - I think the Good Lord forgives me, though, as I'm sure gardens are His favorite church, too.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Ardesia, that's delightful - I will surely remember that!!

Marin, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Murmur; you are soooo right!
In the plants, amongst the bees, the butterflies, the birds, the sunlight that slowly visits each plant in all the corners; that's where I meet Him too, that's where He tells me good things!!

Murmur, that how I am--my house is wrecked and all the gardening related things (potting soil, containers, books, seed packets, seedlings, houseplants, etc) are spreading all over. My DH made a wise crack this morning, because we were out of peanut butter and he says it's because I spend too much time focusing on plants to keep up with the grocery shopping. *rolling eyes* Tamara

Murmur, you have the right idea ;0) Thanks for sharing it...

Marin, CA(Zone 9b)

zone5girl; my husband tells me we (?that is me!) are done planting the front yard, we've reached the high water mark.
He's been telling me that since the chickens could still talk!!! Haha

Look at my garden; there's PLENTY more room!!!! (all agree, right, RIGHT?!) LOL

But of course, Christie!!! You have years and years and years to keep planting before you reach the high water mark. What a silly man your dh is!!!

BTW, I am absolutely crazy about your photo of the Robins at the bird bath!

Marin, CA(Zone 9b)

Murmur, Thank you! The robins are here in flocks right now. My first thought was, wow, they LIKE my feeders! But this morning, I noticed a THICK layer of reddish, black goop ALL OVER ( another reason for my neighbours to dislike me). The birds eat berries and poop.
These robins are here for the shrubs that grow like crazy now, with many red little berries.
They must get drunk or so, my friend 2 houses down had a bird fly into her window and die... Soooooo sad.

I have a new friend who wants to say hello; here he comes!

Sure, there's always more room, isn't there? ;-) My DH adamently refuses to do anything except mow the lawn. I guess, though, that's good, since I get to make all the decisions (actually, that's not true...I distinctly remember a heated argument 2 years ago over the boundaries of my ever-expanding pumpkin patch). But for the most part, he lets me be in the garden and I let him be with his Mustang. :-) Tamara

p.s. What is the "high water mark"? Is that dought-prone-area term? I've never heard that here in Ohio. Tamara

Did you get much damage from the cold in Ca.? I heard it was pretty bad.

Jeri

Marin, CA(Zone 9b)

Tamara, when the rivers meets the high water mark, it will overflow if more water comes.
In this context, there are enough plants; any more and it will be too much. (never too much for me...)

Marin, CA(Zone 9b)

Jery,

My brugmansias are mush, and the citrus got a bit nipped, but that's it really...
I cut things back before winter, and added a layer of mulch. That saved them. Else I have cloudcover I used on the citrus, and it prevented from getting the young trees burnt too much.
Did you lose anything, or didn't you get the cold?

Christie

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

We got it right before Christmas. Had 3 nights at 25 degrees. I'm in zone 8b and mine ususally goes to mush. I cut them back to about 6" in November and mulched them good and stuck all the cuttings in water. I had 17 out of 17 to root and just put all of them into dirt last week. I'm taking out some shrubs in front of my porch and gonna put brugs back in. I just have an unnamed var. but it is really pretty. I've just found out that there are so many.

I'm glad you were hurt by the cold too bad. I've heard that the palms and plumerias were messed up pretty bad there.

Tamara: You sound like you found the right Garden to "visit"! There are many, many of us plantaholics here in Dave's Garden. Isn't it a wonderful place? I just joined the beginning of October and have made so many new gardening friends who have shared their plants and knowledge! I just Love this Garden.

You fit in just fine! Check out this thread that I began when I joined ... there are a lot of us who aid and abet each other here in DG land!

I love your little friend, mrs_colla! Great pics!

The only thing I want to "get out" and do is go to that Louisiana nursery and get more plants! Since it's been cold I've finally done some things to the inside of my house, but I'd rather be dirty and gardening than anything else.

zone5girl, tell your DH y'all can plant peanuts and never have to go out for peanut butter again!

Brigidlily, I'd forgotten that Kipling poem - love it!! Thank you!

Painesville, OH(Zone 5b)

Plantladylin...that thread is hilarious! And yes, I could relate to many of the posts! I wish there was one huge island where all plantaholics could live (and of course, every plant would magically grow there with no problems). ;-) Tamara

Marin, CA(Zone 9b)

I just added my contribution to that thread. Hasn't been any new post since November or so, but I couldn't resist. I don't care if never anybody reads it. Just had to get that confession OFF my chest.

Fabulous foto!

Marin, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks Murmur. You know why I keep making these real close up photo's? Because I can't see futher than a foot without glasses, because I am too preoccupied with garden thoughts to remember (or care) where I last put my glasses! Because I am organic, opposed to orderly ( eew! even the word!)

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Love it! And here I thought it was just your marvelous creativity that prompted such lovely pics!! (I often can't find my glasses - sometimes they're on top of my head.)

(Zone 1)

Oh .... y'all are a hoot! And ... don't we all just fit in "perfectly" here in the Garden?!

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

mrs_colla,
Love your photo, had to chuckle though, talk about 12 steps, I looked at your close-up and thought.."look at all that pollen, wonder how many baby plants are sitting right there?"

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

mrs_colla, your close ups are amazing. You should get together with Eclipse, he likes close ups too; check out his close ups on the hibiscus forum.

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

And speaking of "wonder how many baby plants are sitting right there" -- one of my big problems is what to do with all this excess seed!!! I'll only pot up 6 - 12 out of each packet generally, and I CAN'T throw the rest away!!!

Anybody need herb seeds? Name a herb -- any herb...

I should make a list tonight and put it on the seed trading forum.

Marin, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi, My name is Christie, and I bought and planted so many plants since I said I wasn't going to anymore that it makes my head spin!

Christie, thanks for your confession.

My name is Carole and I also confess that I have bought a ton more plants and have no room for them. To top it off, DH bought me 12 new rose bushes - which I also have no room for until I clean out one overgrown, solid weed area. I'm working on it!! In the meantime, I have ordered more stuff off the Internet - where in the world will I put all this stuff???

And I'm not done yet - the local garden center throws things out when they don't sell . . . guess who picked up four flats of pansies, 50 gallon pots of ornamental grasses, two flats of ground covers, etc., etc., etc.

I think I've totally lost my mind.

Marin, CA(Zone 9b)

Carole, thanks for your confession! Now I feel like I belong!

Thank you! I think I may have to upgrade the property; not a single bird interested!

"Confessions" seem to be pointless here....because we all do it, right? I prefer to think of it as an open resignation to our "addiction" !!! LOL

No need for shame...it's all good....REALLY good !!!
