For the last few years my passion for brugmansia's has slowly faded. I've cut down the number I grow and only keep the ones I love. This past summer I planted with a different frame of mind when putting in the tropicals, less is more. With that plan I didn't give up much of my valuable sun space to brugmansia's and the results really pleased me. This standard of a un-named seedling blooms all season long. The bugs ignore it and it holds a strong pink color and it really did stand out.
Sometimes, less is more
What a gorgeous yard!!
I want my yard to look like that.
very nice.
I luv it.
I want a yard like that too!!
I love your yard!
Great composition - a really good garden! Love the grey Macleaya and the ?artichoke (can't quite see) in there.
Gorgeous as usual, Kristi!
Wow... Your yard is just amazing. Such a cool dog too. LOL
Wow you are amazing!!!!!
Datdog,
What do you do with your brugs in the winter? do you have to dig them up? You have a beautiful garden!!!
Mickey
I was just going to ask where you put your tropicals..I see that begonia in the corner....lovely gardens Dat...Judy
Kristi, your garden is exactly why New Jersey is called the garden state. They should use your pictures as advertisements for the state! I always love your pictures so much!!! And your PINK brug is so pretty! Are you ever going to name her?
You sound like my son, every time he looks at my garden he says Mom, do you know less can be more. LOL
I am also so jealous about your stunning begonias. They do so much better for you there than here. I just had to have a Escargot after seeing yours 2 years ago. It lasted a few months before it lost all its leaves. It has put out 2 new ones. Such torture. LOL I need to send it to you!
Your garden, your entire landscape, is yummy!!!!
I love seeing pics of your garden. You are very gifted with your plant combinations. And that is one very cute dog. lol
Truly an amazing feat. Absolutely gorgeous pics and yard. You must work really hard to keep it that way. If only I could get mine to look like that. Well done!
Kristi just beautiful! You must work out in the garden everyday.
My grandson has a sheepdog and she is a love. Runs through the yard and plays with the kids just like she was one of them. Your yard is beautiful also.
Your yard looks great!!!
When my yard grows up it wants to look just like yours!

Kristi,
All of the above comments, especially the last one. Yet, in this short season and the heat, it is not ment to be. Thanks for the show, spectacular.
Marie
Kell, I finally starved my begonia to death, It went in the garbage can after Christmas. :(
Kristi your yard looks incredible. You can come landscape for me anytime lol
Kristi your garden is absolutely gorgeous.
Kristi, your yard is beautiful.
Wow Kristi, your garden is breathtaking......
Gorgeous pictures, Kristi.
Kristi, you're still my landscaping hero! Thanks for sharing those beautiful pics on such a cold winter day here.
I'm still using your 5th pic on this thread as my background and it sure puts a smile on my face! http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/519158/
You guys and gals are just too much! Thank you for the lovely compliments. It looks better in pictures then it does in person, trust me.
juttz The brugs are wintered over in the garage it is heated and kept about 50F. Many tropicals I treat as annuals now. I HATE house plants and end up killing most of them over the winter anyway.
phil I'm still trying working on getting around the the d-mail you sent me- I stink! We have to get together this spring!
kell I'm not going to name the pink brug- I just like to grow it and look at it :) My Escargot lives in a sunny window all winter. It does good until about March and then I forget to water it and it drops all it's leaves. I thought I'd lost it last winter. Right now it's starting to look a little ratty but has most of it's leaves. I don't do anything special with mine it's just a good grower. I just snapped a picture of mine inside for you.
Liz that is my faithful companion Datdog- he's outside with me rain or shine!
Kristi, Adding my praises here too, wonderful gardens and wonderful Datdog!
I like how the closed umbrella kinda looks like one of the brugs. Am I weird or what?
Ratty or not, yours looks so much better than mine. I think it is because we do not have humidity here. Begonias seem to thrive in humid conditions esp the Rex. So maybe I should stop trying so hard with them. I do have lots of rhizomatous that seem to be doing great in the cold here. I left them outside to sink or swim. But I think once the rains here for more than a day or 2, they will rot in the cold.
I ran across an incredible looking plant a while back while reading Shocking Beauty by Thomas Hobbs. I think it would be so great for your border there. I couldn't capture the rich mahogany red the plant is but you can see it makes quite a statement. It would add such rich color and texture. I wish I had a place for it but you could fit it in and send me pictures. LOL
Rheum palmatum 'Atrosanguineum' from Shocking Beauty by Thomas Hobbs
Enabler Kell! I love that Rheum. I have one that is a beautiful red color when it is opening but once it grows up and the heat hits it doesn't do so well. I'll see if I can dig up a picture of it. I'm going to have to check the book out that you speak of. :) Thanks- Kristi
WOW that PINK is a beauty for sure, Paul!
I wonder if this Rheum gets green as it ages though the picture in the book is a huge one! I would love it by a lime green plant. Find your picture, pretty please. LOL
