It was a great day as always.
Loyd arrived first and I had a wonderful chat with this dear, dear man. Donna arrived and put an immediate smile on our faces; she had brought plants for everyone and her scrumptious baked beans.
Amarantha00 (Karen), our new face was delightful; her deviled eggs were a big hit with all of us and we are hoping for a recipe. When she walks into a room it lights up! We hope to see more of her.
Then Crystalspin and her DH showed up with her famous Tabouli Salad. JasperDale(Mike) came along (we had to talk him in) and brought the vegies and dip which we demolished; he had to stop along the way and be a Good Samaritan, changing a tire for some older folks along the way. He is a sweetheart and the joker of our group; always getting a smile from someone.
Quyen, dear Quyen, got here and gave us all a lesson on how to wrap our own Vietnamese Salad Rolls. Must say we were all so impressed! Hoping in the future for more lessons in Vietnamese cooking. She is the sweetest person you could hope to meet, AND she is a gardener!
Wonderful Weegy (Louise) showed with her daughter and MORE food. It was a delight to meet her daughter who is a wonderful extension of Louise. You did good, Weegy.
We finished the meal with Loyd's wonderful Apple Pie.
DaiseysAvenue was coming but we never saw her. Big disappointment and we really missed George!
But it was a lovely day and great garden talk all around.
i really love ALL of you guys and look forward to doing it again. If the big round-up is in May . . I'll be there..

January 20th, 2007 Garden Party
Arlene...Thank you so much for having us all and for your usual great food! It was great fun as always.
Thanks to all who brought goodies and made it a fun event!
Mike
NOTE: Arlene came out from IOWA...and she was colder than ANY of us Calif. people !!!!!
Arlene, here's another big thank you for setting up another great little garden party. It is always so much fun to see and visit with our dear local garden friends again.
I ditto everything you said above and more. What a great bunch of people we had today, sharing themselves with all of us.
Karen, it was so nice to finally meet you and what a joy you are. I'm so glad you could make it and to see and hear how crazy we are about our gardens....you are not alone!! lol
I look forward to seeing you all again soon, I hope.
Thanks again,
Donna
Mike, thanks for the kind words, I'll pass them onto my dear Andrea. It was good to see you. Thanks for the watsonia bulbs my buddy!
Donna, I enjoy you more and more everytime I see you. You are a treasure. Thanks for all the plants.
Arlene, thank you for going to all the trouble to have us over again. The food was absolutely fabulous. I enjoy these potlucks so much.
Lloyd, I took some of your apple goody home... it was wonderful. I was too full to eat it there so Arlene gave me a couple of pieces to take with me. Yummy!
Richard, Elizabeth, Karen...it was good to meet you all and I'm sure we'll have many more potlucks together in the future. And of course, Quyen (sp) it's always fun to see what you're going to bring to eat...those lettuce rolls were great!
It was a nice time, nice weather and the company could not have been better.
Love to you all. (will start that recipe thread later!)
I had a great time yesterday. Thanks to everyone!
I’ve been trying to identify the name of the red hibiscus type plant from which we shared cuttings.
This afternoon, I started five of these cuttings in paper cups with potting mix and rooting hormone. Also planted what Donna gave me.
Could this be the identity --
Red-Leaf Hibiscus, False Roselle, African Rose Mallow
Hibiscus acetosella
Loyd
Loyd,
I will email Calla and ask her.
Here is the thread that weegy started for our potluck recipes. Please post them for all of us to share.

Donna
Sorry for my delay in posting :-(
Thanks so much to all of you for welcoming me to your "club"! I was a bit nervous to come to the potluck being less experienced than most of you, but my trepidation was quickly overcome by all of your warmth and welcome.
I had a wonderful time and am so happy to meet you all. Thank you, Donna, for all the fun plants. I've put them into little pots until the bizarre weather calms down a bit at my house :-)
Thanks again and I'm looking forward to our next "event"!
karen (amarantha00)
Loyd,
CallaLily confirmed your ID on the hibiscus
Karen, can you believe the winds we've had? I'm so tired of wind but isn't today absolutlly beautiful???!!
75 here! Yippeeee.
Yeah, everyone, the potluck was wonderful as usual. Bunch of wonderful people that's for sure.
I'm SOOOO over this wind!!!!
I'm grateful for today, however. You're right, it's just beautiful ~ now if it will only hold like this through the weekend, maybe I'll actually be able to go outside and work!!
That's why I jumped into the garden today, something about the sun energizing me I think. Got lots done now have to tackle more...why am I sitting here at the computer?!?!!?!?
'cause you miss us?
You got that right!
You should not flaunt your ability to be in the garden; my garden is under 4 feet of snow. I left in a snowstorm and they got more while I was gone. All I can do in my withdrawal stage is look at garden catalogues and slap my wrist. LOL
Did we have winds? That explains why my New Guinea Goldvine looks so sad. I was so busy getting ready for and then doing the tradeshow, I didn't notice. Unfortunately, not enough rain in MY backyard to revive the Goldvine, I promise to give it a nice drink tomorrow if we don't get any more rain overnight.
First I have logged in since the garden party. My camera was set wrong so no pics to share... but sure had a nice time!
~'spin!~
I've got to tell you guys that were at the party, I'm soooo glad I got to go, since I'm back sick again :-( I saw the immunologist today and am back in the bubble (being housebound) for the next month of so until they can begin my hospital treatments. Off four months, back to work not quite two weeks, and back off again *audible sigh*.
Hopefully the weather will be nice at least a while so I can go out in the backyard....
karen
Oh Karen, I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well again. I will keep you in my thoughts.
Spin, oh man...your the only one who remembered to take any pictures at all. lol
We received a nice little rain today, but sure wish it was a little more. I'm not certain we will be getting any tonight.
Donna
Karen,
Sorry you are sick again; maybe some gardening catalogs will cheer you up? That always helps me. Unfortunately they get me into trouble too!
Glad you are getting rain there; my gardens looked terrible when I was there but I got some good advice from Donna and Mike. So maybe I won't lose my banana totally.
It is very cold again here today and will be all week. Third week of Feb I will be back in CA and get to be away from the cold for a little while.
a
Oh, Karen, sorry you're sick again. Feel better and get out to gardening real soon. We're supposed to be in the 80's by next week! If you need some help, let me know since we're so close.
Take care of yourself.
I am bringing this thread up again to let you all know that the cutting I had from Arlene's red hibiscus has nice long roots now. I potted it up this morning. It probably rooted way before, but I had it in a cup in my dinette area and kept forgetting to look at it.
I had to come to this thread to get the name of it again.
Thanks Arlene for sharing this plant with many of us. :-)
Donna
You are welcome, Donna! Did anyone else have luck with it?
