Plant Police thread # 2

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

New thread for well hashed business.

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

CG: Probably so..a) they hire anybody to work for them b) could of been a friend who sold it to him c) maybe he stold it and didn't really pay for it.
These are just my three guesses.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Bernie, thanks much for a new start for the new year! Have heard that WM is getting out of the 'gun' business. That may be why?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

well, well. will this be for better or for worse?

hmmm. I must have done something not allowed by DG. I copied/pasted a news item from my earthlink news tape, but I see it's not showing up now.

THe story is about HD Bob Nardelli's sudden resignation. If I find another news clip I'll try to post it here.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

here is another link.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I'm sorry. it was deleted again. I think it must be because no discussion of current topics allowed.

My apologies to everyone.

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Interesting they'd disappear. What's this about Nardelli's resigning?

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

I just heard it on the TV news. He was fired for poor stock performance. Just what we've all been talking about. You can't undersell forever. you run out of profit!
Bernie

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

ooooh, let's NOT get started on whether it's ethical for a company to be beholden to stockholders rather than customers ...

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Yes, but if they are good to the customer, the stock holder will be pleased. I think this will work for any business, treat the customer right, Mr. Businessman prospers! I know, I'm in business.

Well, I spent my career in newspapers, which is a public-service hybrid. And when I got into that glorious profession, newspapers were family owned. Now they're run by massive chains & most newsrooms are shadows of their former selves, and that's a travesty. Bad stuff happens when servants of the public good are held to the bottom line. As Dave Barry put it, "Every morning Wall Street calls & yells, 'Send more profits!' and then slams down the phone. Meanwhile, the lone reporter looks out the window in case news happens in the parking lot."

I guess health care would be another example.

vossner, your links did not dissapear, they are too long and wrapped.

Here's what I found out today: Wal-mart and Home Depot are both BIG contributors to the Republican Party, and with the Democratic Party it's Barnes & Noble and Costco. Interesting... I also learned other interesting things about Wal-mart which I won't post here.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Ms. Carrie you must have some insider info... hmmmm?

and whooo was it that had Mr Nardellis' phone number in their speed dial? Could HD, WM, etc be DGrs?

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

He also walks away with app. $300 k.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Chicken feed. U of Minnesota just fired basketball & football coaches. Both get a couple million $ so they won't starve before a new job shows up. Do you know anybody that got even $1 when they were fired from a floor scrubbing job.

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

sorry, that's 300 million !

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

A million here ~ a million there ~ it's only chicken feed! (to some)

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

I wish I had $300.00 extra. LOL!

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh, what a rose garden I could have with Bob Nardelli's severance package...

And a lovely gardener named Manuel to tend it...

San Francisco Bay Ar, CA(Zone 9b)

and will Manuel be dressed as a Chipendale?

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Maybe.

Maybe not.

;p

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Manuel? Are you doling out jobs on the basis of ethnicity?

Ms. P, it was a radical newsletter they wanted ME to subscribe to. I read the ad and then trashed the mailing; remembered the info...

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Brigidlily ~ Down girl, back to reality. The gardeners name is Manual and its' you! Manual labor. But you are better liked than some guy who got shipped from HD with a measly 300 mil.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Ha ha ha Podster, I used to have a manual wheelchair named Senor Manual Wheelchair, and we used to make up stories about him. He's retired now, in the basement.

xxx, Carrie

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh noooo Carrie ~ he's not banished to the basement. Poor Senor Manual... : )

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

We have one banished to the upstairs store room. Tried to get him back in action when MIL broke her hip, but he was of his game, so to speak. After a few days he shaped up. He's back upstairs now. I think he urged MIL to take up walking again because of his laziness. LOL!

Okay, I just have this thing about Antonio Banderas. A girl can dream, can't she? (He's the only one my daughter and I ever argued over...) But yes, pod, you're right. It's THESE hands that will be doing the work -- even if I did have 300m!

I have some crutches -- I don't get rid of them because I'll need them if I do! Once you get something like that, you should hang on to it! Just superstition, but superstition has its place.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

All the guys I ever mooned over didn't seem like they'd be much help with a shovel. Peter O'Toole? I don't think so.

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

I don't much care whether Antonio can use a shovel...

;p

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

me neither, bl!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Crutches, I agree! We had a pair in storage and I was having a garage sale. Entertained the thought of selling them and ended up on them that day. Badly sprained ankle. They and our wheelchair, walker, cane, potty chair, shower chair will stay in storage till they rot or I die!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I have to look on craig's list for a new/used wheelchair. The "new" young floozy we got to replace Senor Wheelchair has worn herself out, ha ha ha, she's not used to the pace of life around here and she understood it to be a strictly part-time position.

Seriously, though, places like the MS society can put the items in your storage to very good use by distributing them to folks who need them but can't afford them, especially stuff like the shower chair and the commode, which Medicare doesn't cover. There are also organizations that ship used eyeglasses and wheel chairs and crutches and bedpans to developing nations where they are in short supply.

Hiya Carrie ~ we had a 2nd hand store for a few looonnnnng years. I accumulated all these things second hand. As we are gaining on age, I chose to keep them. In the last six years, I have loaned them to friends, relatives and we have used them quite a few times ourselves. Some things loaned never were brought back. Other health care items that came thru the store ( and we got plenty ) were usually donated to needy people in the community. Always amazed me that so much turned up used. Anyone need a "blue bidet" ? : ))
