Visitors to My Garden.....(continued)

Oh I feel so guilty that you have to buy time by 5 hour blocks. I leave the computer on when I am home all the time and run around cooking and cleaning. I'd be a pauper if I had to pay by the block.

Now lemme know if you want Miss Rust Butt. Don't be shy now ya hear.

Great story ginger!

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Yes Pep it is a good story .
I was wondering if any one would read it .
Much like when Captain Cook went to Fiji .
In 1770 or there abouts .

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Yep. And I can assure you it will get read by others, they just may not comment on it.

I'm still getting over this but it was an interesting story-

"Wichety grubs are very sweet, you should try some. These have been toasted lightly over the fire to remove the legs; I like them best this way. When eaten raw, the legs always get stuck in my teeth. Won’t you have some?"

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

LOL. I was shaking my head when I read that too.

I'll eat just about anything but that was even pushing it for me. I suppose I would have eaten them if I didn't know what they were. Now, if I knew what those juicy morsels were before I plopped them in my mouth there is no way I would have eaten them.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

I`m going to find a pic of those Wichety grubs .
So stay tuned .

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

This be him ,
He`s about 3 inches long .
They taste like almonds .
You really should try some ?

Thumbnail by ginger749

Gee, food is something I take very seriously. Thanks for that visual that I will go to sleep with tonight ;)

I'm not Pumba and I'm not Timon.

I can guarantee I'm not eating them if I know what they are. If you could somehow disguise them, I'd probably eat them as long as I wasn't told what they were until long after I chewed and swallowed a few. I'm not saying the gag reflux might not kick in but If they tasted good, I'd probably eat them again even if I knew what they were. Once I get over the hump of my cultural bias, I'm usually ok.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Eqi, Would you eat one of these ?

Thumbnail by ginger749
KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Ginger, almost everyone eats those. LOL

Well, I wouldn't say almost everyone would but I would. Many people have at least tried frog legs.

Dewitt, MI(Zone 5b)

I don't think that those would be Frog legs. I think that they would be Cane Toad legs. I wouldn't eat them, but when I was younger I may have tried licking a live Cane Toad. The toxin that these Toads excrete can be hallucinogenic and is classified along with Heroin and Cocaine in Australia. The other possible toxic effect is an overdose, resulting in death.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Stelco
You are one very cluey person .
I had Pep & Eqi tricked .
You are indeed right , Poisenous Toad .
At one stage was poisoning our snakes ,
Birds , Lizards & Small rodent Population .

Gee Ginger, I'm gonna get you and your little dog Toto too for trying to cyber poison me! That'll teach me for being so open to all kinds of new and not so new delicacies.

Mark, I'm going to reward you for saving a damsel in "soon to be toxic distress". I've got a real nice gourd one of the kids grew that I had set aside for somebody special. You get our gourd for your babies.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Because I have so many fish tanks
The carpet snakes come and soak in the water .
To prepare for their skin shedding trick .

Kell, good story, I enjoyed it. And the ficus is incredible. Never knew they bore fruit. Can only grow indoors here, and lord help you if you move it, or put in the wrong place. A little slow getting over here, but looking around. Beginning seed planting and preps for spring, so spread all over absorbing info. "Hi, my name is Paul, and I'm an info junkie.".

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

vadap
Glad to hear you are finally "Beginning seed planting and preps for spring".
Looking forward to some more of your walruss Pics . lol
Please post Pics soon . Kell

Aurora, CO(Zone 5b)

LOL The walrus has put on some extra blubber since that last pic was taken. Been a long winter this year.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Yeah ! BUT what goes on must come off ?
Or is that Up / Down . You know what I mean .
No sea for you at all any more ?

Dewitt, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks for the offer Lauren, but I have more natural gourds than I know what to do with and no time to spend on the many hours per gourd to properly prepare one for a proper nest. Another drawback on natural gourds is that nest checks are impossible. The bonus side is that sometimes they are the only way to start a Martin colony.

Ginger,

Did your country find a way to control the invasive toad or did nature just adapt to it?

Mark

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Thanks Stelco for saving us from cyber poison. LOL.

Ginger, Equil and I are gonna gang up on ya so BEWARE!!

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

The snakes have learned not to eat them .
Crows will flip them over and eat them from the underside to the backbone .
Because the poison sacks are on the outside of the shoulders .
Even dogs have learnt not to touch them .
We just can`t eradicate them .

Did you ever lick them ?

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Pep, you already have ,
Calling me a cross dresser .Grooooowllllllllll .

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I thought it was Equil who called you that. LOL.

Our Country, like yours, has not found a way to address the presence of the Cane Toad as of yet. They are asking the public to help eradicate the species.

Mark, I'm taking my gourd and I'm going to hide it from you just in case you change your mind.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Pep, Who was it that said ?

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

LOL. I had forgotten about that. But you deserve it. Now we just need the pictures to back it up. hehehehe

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Will this do ?

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Seen that one already. You need to put on a dress, then it will do.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Ok , Ill try .

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I can't wait. I'm gonna print the pic when you do and take it to work. I will have them howling big time. LOL

Little bit of lipstick and rouge might help babe.

Dewitt, MI(Zone 5b)

I've done a LOT of things, but I've never licked a Toad of any kind. YOU???

You haven't told us about your mushrooms. I've tried several varieties of those. :)

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Yeah, I forgot that. Stelco, you need to join ginger in this. That way he won't feel so alone. *grins*

Nope, can't say as I've licked a toad but I have kids who have kissed them. They love toads. Does that count for anything?
